The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Oakland A’s square off in the opener of a mini two game interleague set in MLB action on Tuesday.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to build some steam after salvaging a 3-2 win in their series finale against Houston on Sunday. Brian Dozier led the Dodgers with two RBIs, going 1 for 4 with a double. Cody Bellinger went 2 for 4 with a double of his own to round out the scoring for the Dodgers in the win. Manny Machado went 3 for 4 with a double and Enrique Hernandez added a double of his own to round out the offense for L.A. in the win. Walker Buehler got the win to improve to 5-4 this season after giving up two runs on four hits while striking out eight over 5.1 innings of work. Kenley Jansen closed out the 9th for his 31st save of the season. Rich Hill will start game one and is 4-4 with a 3.63 ERA and 81 strikeouts this season. This will be Hill’s second career start against Oakland.

The Oakland A’s will be looking to stay hot after their second straight series sweep with a 6-0 win over the Detroit Tigers in their series finale on Sunday, pushing their winning streak to six games. Matt Chapman and Matt Olson each had a home run and two RBIs, while Khris Davis added a solo home run. Ramon Laureano went 3 for 4 with an RBI to round out Oakland’s scoring in the win while Stephen Piscotty chipped in a base hit in the winning effort. Trevor Cahill got the win to climb to 4-2 this season after throwing six shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out ten. Sean Manaea will start game one and is 10-7 with a 3.38 ERA and 98 strikeouts this season. This will be Manaea’s second career start against the Dodgers.
Los Angeles is 17-5 in their last 22 series opening matchups and 23-10 in their last 33 road games while the under is 8-2 in their last 10 games against the AL West. Oakland is 8-2 in Manaea’s last 10 starts and 14-2 in their last 16 home games while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games against the NL West. Los Angeles is 2-7 in the last 9 meetings between these two teams and 1-10 in the last 11 meetings between these two teams in Oakland.
Hill has been solid, allowing just two runs in his three starts spanning 19 innings of work. However, as good as the Dodgers lineup is and as talented as they are, L.A. was outscored 18-4 in their three game set against Houston. Granted 14 of those runs for the Astros came in one game, but still. You could very well argue that Oakland has been just as hot as the Astros, and Manaea has been stellar, giving up three runs or less in each of his last 11 starts. We are getting the hotter team, who has been strong at home, for plus money, and I’m not overthinking it here. I’ll side with Oakland to draw first blood on Tuesday.
