The Baltimore Orioles and the Tampa Bay Rays square off in game one of a three game AL East division set from Tropicana Field in MLB action on Tuesday.
The Baltimore Orioles will look to build some steam after avoiding the four game sweep at the hands of the Texas Rangers with a 9-6 win in game four on Sunday. Mark Trumbo led the O’s with five RBIs, going 3 for 4 with a pair of home runs. Austin Wynns added a home run and three RBIs as well while Jonathan Villar went 3 for 3 with a solo home run and a double to round out the scoring for Baltimore in the win. Renato Nunez went 2 for 4 while Jace Peterson added a base hit as well to round out the offense for Baltimore in the winning effort. Yefry Ramirez gave up five runs on five hits while walking five over 1.2 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Tanner Scott picked up the win to climb to 2-2 this season while Mychal Givens locked up his second save of the season. Alex Cobb will start game one and is 3-14 with a 5.83 ERA and 75 strikeouts this season. In his career, Cobb is 0-3 with a 6.06 ERA and 7 strikeouts against Tampa Bay.

The Tampa Bay Rays will look to bounce back after being swept by the Chicago White Sox, including an 8-7 loss in the series finale on Sunday. Ji-Man Choi led the Rays with three RBIs, while Joey Wendle went 3 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs. Kevin Kiermaier added a double and an RBI while Mallex Smith went 4 for 5 at the dish. C.J. Cron added a double and Matt Duffy added a base hit in the losing effort. Diego Castillo ended up with the loss, falling to 2-2 with the loss. Tyler Glasnow will start game one and is 1-2 with a 4.27 ERA and 77 strikeouts this season. This will be Glasnow’s first career start against Baltimore.
Baltimore is 16-56 in their last 72 road games and 16-35 in their last 51 series opening matchups while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 division matchups. Tampa Bay is 20-7 in their last 27 home games and 1-4 in their last 5 games following a loss while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games against a right-handed starter. Baltimore is 1-7 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams in Tampa Bay.
The Orioles were able to snap out of a funk on Sunday, but that doesn’t change the fact that the O’s have been horrible and hard to back for much of the season. That’s no different with Cobb, who hasn’t been good this year either and has struggled against his former team. The Rays are just a different animal at home, and Glasnow looked decent in his Rays debut, so I’ll back the Rays to get back on track with a win on Tuesday.
