Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

The Toronto Blue Jays will be looking to bounce back after failing to complete the sweep of the Seattle Mariners, dropping Sunday’s finale by a final score of 6-3. Aledmys Diaz led the Jays by going 3 for 4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs, while Luke Maile added an RBI of his own to cap off Toronto’s scoring in the loss. Sam Gaviglio gave up three runs on seven hits while striking out seven over 5.2 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Joe Biagini took the loss, falling to 1-6 this season. Marcus Stroman will start game one and is 4-8 with a 5.63 ERA and 68 strikeouts this season. In his career, Stroman is 4-3 with a 4.28 ERA and 54 strikeouts against Boston.

Boston is 37-18 in their last 55 road games and 40-15 in their last 55 games overall while the under is 12-3-1 in their last 16 games against a right-handed starter. Toronto is 5-2 in Stroman’s last 7 starts against a team with a winning record and 8-3 in their last 11 series opening mashups while the over is 9-2 in their last 11 games overall. Toronto is 1-4 in Stroman’s last 5 starts against Boston.

As a Toronto fan this kills me to say, but I’m not sure why the Red Sox are such a small favorite here. The Red Sox are flat out rolling, after sweeping the Yankees and stretching their division lead to near double digits with September just around the corner. Pomeranz hasn’t pitched great lately, but Stroman has been shaky in his own right and is coming off of a start where he gave up seven runs in five innings last time out. Gotta like Boston with the low line to keep their momentum going.
