Coming up Tuesday from Nationals Park, the Atlanta Braves and the Washington Nationals will be meeting up for the second game of a doubleheader.
Atlanta is coming off a four-game set versus the Mets. The Braves lost just one of those games, a 3-0 shutout on Saturday.

For the Tuesday nightcap, the Braves will be sending out LHP Sean Newcomb. In his 119.2 innings and 10-5 mark this year, Newcomb has a 3.23 ERA with 110 Ks.
Nick Markakis has a slim lead on the Braves hitting lead coming into this doubleheader, with 135 hits, 62 runs, 13 homers and 68 RBI. Hot on his tail is Freddie Freeman, with 133 hits, 66 runs, 18 homers and 69 RBI.
Over on the Nats’ side, they’re fresh off a series versus the Reds. Washington lost the first game of that set, but won the other two 6-2 and 2-1.
For the night game on Tuesday, the Nationals will be rolling with Max Scherzer in the start. Across his 154.2 innings and 15-5 record, Scherzer has a 2.33 ERA with 210 Ks.
Tops in hitting for the Nats coming into the doubleheader is Trea Turner with 119 hits, 68 runs, 14 homers and 47 RBI. Anthony Rendon is close to double-digits with 98 hits, 50 runs, 16 homers and 55 RBI.
The Braves are 4-10 in their last 14 in game two of a series and 5-0 in Newcomb’s last five starts versus the NL East. Atlanta is also 1-4 in their last five Tuesday games and 2-5 in Newcomb’s last seven starts.
Meanwhile, the Nationals are 25-11 in their last 36 Tuesday games and the over is 5-1 in the Nats’ last six games versus a left-handed starter. The under is 20-8 in Washington’s last 28 Tuesday games and 34-16-1 in their last 51 in game two of a series.
This should be a fun game to watch, especially pitching-wise. Newcomb went 8.2 innings with one hit in his last start and is coming in on extra rest. As for Scherzer, he has a 2-1 record with a 1.80 ERA and 24 Ks against the Braves this year. This particular game is kind of a coin flip, but I’m going with the Nationals and Scherzer here.
