Coming up Wednesday from Chase Field, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Arizona Diamondbacks will be meeting up on the MLB diamond to complete their series.
The Diamondbacks (well, mostly just David Peralta) bagged an epic 3-2 14-inning win Monday, then on Tuesday Philly came back on a 5-2 win.

For Wednesday’s matchup, the Phillies will be bringing out Vince Velasquez. In his 113.2 innings and 8-8 mark this year, Velasquez has a 3.80 ERA with 129 Ks and 43 BBs.
Leading the Phillies hitters entering game two was Odubel Herrera, with 117 hits, 54 runs, 19 homers and 61 RBI. On Tuesday, Herrera came up empty.
Over on the D-Backs’ side, they’re going with Patrick Corbin on Wednesday. Across 141.1 innings and an 8-4 record this year, Corbin has a 3.31 ERA with 174 Ks and 37 BBs.
Peralta, naturally, leads the Diamondbacks in hitting this year, with 120 hits, 53 runs, 19 homers and 56 RBI entering Tuesday. In game two, Peralta had two hits and a run.
The Phillies are 4-1 in their last five Wednesday games and 10-4 in their last 14 in game three of a series. Philly is also 1-5 in Velasquez’s last six Wednesday starts and 0-4 in Velasquez’s last four road starts.
Meanwhile, Arizona is 1-12 in their last 13 Wednesday games and 4-1 in Corbin’s last five starts. The Diamondbacks are also 2-6 in Corbin’s last eight home starts and 1-7 in his last eight starts with four days’ rest.
In his last four starts, Velasquez has four quality starts with just two combined earned runs between them all. As for Corbin, he’s given up seven earned over his last two starts in 12.0 innings, but is 2-0 in his last three starts. I think Velasquez may give Philly just enough room to eke out a win here, but it should be a close game so I’m staying away.
