We have some MLB action from Yankee Stadium on Thursday as the Texas Rangers and the New York Yankees square off in game one of a four game set.
The Texas Rangers will look to build some steam after winning the rubber match of their series with the Seattle Mariners following an 11-7 win on Wednesday. Joey Gallo led the Rangers with four RBIs, going 3 for 5 with a pair of home runs. Adrian Beltre and Ronald Guzman each had two RBIs, with Guzman going 3 for 5 with a double. Willie Calhoun and Jurickson Profar each had a double and an RBI with Calhoun going 2 for 3 with a pair of two-baggers. Rougned Odor went 2 for 5 with a triple while Isiah Kiner-Falefa went 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles. Elvis Andrus and Carlos Tocci each added a double while Drew Robinson added a base hit to cap off Texas’ offense in the win as every Ranger that stepped to the plate had at least one hit in the win. Yovani Gallardo got the win to climb to 7-1 this season after allowing two runs on three hits over six innings of work. Ariel Jurado will start game one and is 2-1 with a 4.02 ERA and 7 strikeouts this season. This will be Jurado’s first career start against the Yankees.

The New York Yankees will look to keep the momentum going after completing the three game sweep of the Chicago White Sox following a 7-3 win in the series finale on Wednesday. Giancarlo Stanton led the Yanks with four RBIs coming on a 2nd inning grand slam while Aaron Hicks added a solo homer of his own. Austin Romine and Shane Robinson each added an RBI to cap off the Yankees’ scoring in the win. Greg Bird, Gleyber Torres and Neil Walker each added a base knock as well to round out the offense for New York in the win. Luis Severino got the win to improve to 15-5 this season, allowing all three runs on seven hits while striking out eight over seven innings of work. J.A. Happ will start game one and is 11-6 with a 4.05 ERA and 132 strikeouts this season. In his career, Happ is 4-2 with a 2.97 ERA and 37 strikeouts against Texas.
Texas is 8-3 in their last 11 games overall and 4-1 in their last 5 road games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games against the AL East. New York is 5-0 in their last 5 games against the AL West and 57-19 in their last 76 home games while the under is 35-17-4 in their last 56 games overall. Texas is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams in New York.
The Yankees need this game way more than Texas does and Happ was very good in his Yankee debut. However, Happ is coming off of the DL and while it wasn’t a serious injury, it could still throw off his rhythm in the starting rotation. Jurado has already held a solid offense in Houston’s in check, allowing just one run over six innings in his second start and with the way Texas has been swinging the bat, I’d probably take a small shot on the Rangers or leave this one alone.
