As for the Thursday game, the Sox will be bringing out Rick Porcello for the start. In his 140.2 innings and 14-4 record this year, Porcello has a 3.84 ERA with 135 Ks and 33 BBs.
JD Martinez has been on fire this year, entering Wednesday on 135 hits, 81 runs, 34 homers and 97 RBI. On Wednesday, Martinez had three hits, a run and an RBI.
Over on the Jays’ side, they’re going with Ryan Borucki on Thursday. Across 43.0 innings and a 1-2 record this year, Borucki has a 2.30 ERA with 30 Ks and 11 BBs.
Toronto’s top hitter this year is Yangervis Solarte, who came into Wednesday on 100 hits, 50 runs, 17 homers and 53 RBI. In game two, Solarte logged an 0-for-4 line.
The Red Sox are 5-1 in their last six Thursday games and 4-0 in Porcello’s last four road starts. Boston is also 7-1 in Porcello’s last eight starts and 20-7 in his last 27 on five days’ rest.
Meanwhile, the Jays are 3-11 in their last 14 Thursday games and the over is 8-1-1 in their last 10 Thursday games. The over is 4-1 in the Jays’ last five in game three of a series and they’re 2-5 in their last seven games after losing the first two games of a series.
Despite his great numbers this year, Porcello has had two bad starts over his last four, with 12 earned runs total in 7.2 combined innings. That said, Porcello is also coming off a complete game one-hitter. Borucki has been good lately with three straight quality starts, but I don’t think anyone is a match for this Red Sox team right now. I’m going Boston.
