The Oakland A’s and the Los Angeles Angels meet up in game two of their three game AL West division set in MLB action from Angel Stadium on Saturday.
The Oakland A’s will look to rebound after dropping the series opener on Friday by a final score of 4-3. All of Oakland’s damage on the scoreboard was done with first inning home runs, with Khris Davis launching a two run shot while Matt Chapman went 2 for 4 with a solo home run and a double. Jed Lowrie, Matt Olson and Mark Canha each had a hit to round out Oakland’s offense as the A’s cranked out just six hits as a team in the loss. Brett Anderson gave up two runs on four hits while striking out four over five innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Lou Trevino picked up his fourth blown save of the year and took the loss to fall to 8-2 this season. Edwin Jackson will start game two and is 3-2 with a 2.87 ERA and 35 strikeouts this season. In his career, Jackson is 4-4 with a 3.83 ERA and 33 strikeouts against the Angels.

The Los Angeles Angels will look to stay hot after their series opening win on Friday. Kole Calhoun and Justin Upton each had a home run and two RBIs to make up the Angels’ scoring in the win, while David Fletcher went 2 for 4 as well and Albert Pujols and Jose Briceno added a base hit each to make up L.A.’s seven hits as a team in the win. Felix Pena allowed three runs on five hits while striking out four, not factoring in the decision. Jim Johnson got the win to climb to 4-2 this season while Blake Parker locked up his 11th save of the year. Tyler Skaggs will start game two and is 8-7 with a 3.34 ERA and 118 strikeouts this season. In his career, Skaggs is 2-4 with a 4.20 ERA and 39 strikeouts against Oakland.
Oakland is 6-1 in their last 7 division matchups and 6-2 in Jackson’s last 8 starts while the under is 2-0-2 in Jackson’s last 4 road starts. Los Angeles is 1-4 in Skaggs’ last 5 home starts against a team with a winning record and 2-5 in their last 7 games against a right-handed starter while the over is 9-4 in Skaggs’ last 13 home starts. The over is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.
Common logic would say back the Angels who are on this nice little winning streak. However, Jackson hasn’t allowed an earned run in his last two starts spanning 12 innings of work, and Skaggs gave up 10 runs in 3.1 innings in his last time on the mound. I like Oakland to bounce back and even up the series with a win on Saturday.
