Jordy Mercer had two RBIs and a double while Adeiny Hechavarria added a solo home run and David Frees and Colin Moran each contributed an RBI as well, with Moran hitting a pinch-hit triple while Freese went 2 for 3 with a double. Josh Bell went 3 for 5 with a double as well while Josh Harrison, Adam Frazier, Jordan Luplow and Corey Dickerson each added a base hit as well in the loss. The San Francisco Giants will look to build on the offensive fireworks that they put forth in game two on Friday. Buster Posey and Alen Hanson each had three RBIs with Posey going 4 for 5 while Hanson went 3 for 6 with a double. Andrew McCutchen, Austin Slated and Steven Duggar each had two RBIs, with Duggar hitting a double while Cutch opened the scoring with a home run. Evan Longoria added an RBI of his own to round out the scoring for the Giants in the win while Joe Panik went 2 for 4 with a double. Brandon Crawford added a two-bagger of his own while Derek Holland added a base hit to round out San Francisco’s offense in the winning effort. Holland got the win to improve to 6-8 this season after allowing five runs, four earned, on ten hits while striking out five over 6.1 innings of work. Ty Blach will start game three and is 6-6 with a 4.28 ERA and 52 strikeouts this season. This will be Blach’s first career start against Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh is 7-3 in Williams’ last 10 starts against a team with a losing record and 20-8 in their last 28 games overall while the under is 10-3 in Williams’ last 13 road starts. San Francisco is 0-5 in their last 5 Saturday games and 2-8 in their last 10 home games while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games against the NL Central. Pittsburgh is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams in San Francisco.
I got burned by the Pirates after they made a late decision to push Williams’ start back a day, but while that means I lost a day, I think of it as pushing my pick back an extra day. Williams has allowed just two runs over his last four starts, and the Pirates have scored ten runs in three of their last four games. The Giants’ offense exploded on Friday, but they’ve been held down more often than not lately, so I’ll be Pittsburgh to retake the series lead on Saturday.
