The Kansas City Royals will look to salvage a win and avoid the sweep after dropping game two on Saturday. Alcides Escobar led KC with two RBIs, going 2 for 2 with a home run, while Lucas Duda, Ryan O’Hearn and Adalberto Mondesi each contributed a base knock as the Royals put up just five hits as a team in the loss. Danny Duffy took the loss, falling to 7-11 this season after giving up six runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings of work. Jakob Junis will start game three and is 6-11 with a 4.98 ERA and 114 strikeouts this season. This will be Junis’ second career start against St. Louis.
St. Louis is 8-2 in their last 10 games overall and 12-5 in Weaver’s last 17 starts on 5 days rest while the under is 10-2-1 in their last 13 interleague games against a team with a losing record. Kansas City is 2-9 in Junis’ last 11 starts and 4-22 in their last 26 home games against a team with a winning record while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 home games. St. Louis is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams and 30-11 in the last 41 meetings between these two teams in Kansas City.
Junis has pitched better for the Royals as of late, but the same reason why I backed St. Louis yesterday is why I’m doing it again here. We are getting the better team in the Cardinals for a very reasonable price considering the opposition. Weaver is actually a better pitcher on the road than at home this season, so I’ll back St. Louis to complete the sweep on Sunday.
