The St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Royals hook up for the finale of their three game interleague set from Kauffman Stadium in MLB action on Sunday.

The St. Louis Cardinals will look to complete the sweep after making it four wins in a row with an 8-3 victory in game two on Saturday. Jose Martinez led the Cards by going 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs while Harrison Bader also went yard, putting up two RBIs in the winning effort. Marcell Ozuna, Paul DeJong and Jedd Gyorko each added an RBI to round out the Cardinals’ scoring in the win, with Ozuna adding a triple while DeJong chipped in a double.Yadier Molina went 2 for 5 with a double to cap off St. Louis’ offense in the victory. Jack Flaherty got the win to improve to 6-6 this season after giving up two runs on three hits while striking out nine over seven innings of work. Jordan Hicks picked up his 3rd save of the season by closing out the 9th. Luke Weaver will start game three and is 6-10 with a 4.66 ERA and 111 strikeouts this season. This will be Weaver’s second career start against Kansas City.

The Kansas City Royals will look to salvage a win and avoid the sweep after dropping game two on Saturday. Alcides Escobar led KC with two RBIs, going 2 for 2 with a home run, while Lucas Duda, Ryan O’Hearn and Adalberto Mondesi each contributed a base knock as the Royals put up just five hits as a team in the loss. Danny Duffy took the loss, falling to 7-11 this season after giving up six runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings of work. Jakob Junis will start game three and is 6-11 with a 4.98 ERA and 114 strikeouts this season. This will be Junis’ second career start against St. Louis.

St. Louis is 8-2 in their last 10 games overall and 12-5 in Weaver’s last 17 starts on 5 days rest while the under is 10-2-1 in their last 13 interleague games against a team with a losing record. Kansas City is 2-9 in Junis’ last 11 starts and 4-22 in their last 26 home games against a team with a winning record while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 home games. St. Louis is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams and 30-11 in the last 41 meetings between these two teams in Kansas City.

Junis has pitched better for the Royals as of late, but the same reason why I backed St. Louis yesterday is why I’m doing it again here. We are getting the better team in the Cardinals for a very reasonable price considering the opposition. Weaver is actually a better pitcher on the road than at home this season, so I’ll back St. Louis to complete the sweep on Sunday.
