The Toronto Blue Jays and the Kansas City Royals meet in the opener of a four game set from Kauffman Stadium in MLB action on Monday.

The Toronto Blue Jays will look to build some steam after avoiding the sweep at the hands of the Tampa Bay Rays following a 2-1 win in the series finale on Sunday. Devon Travis went 2 for 3 with an RBI while Randal Grichuk added an RBI of his own to round out the scoring for Toronto in the win. Kevin Pillar, Russell Martin and Aledmys Diaz each added a double to cap off Toronto’s offense in victory. Marcus Stroman threw five innings, allowing the lone run on five hits before leaving due to a blister on his finger. Jaime Garcia got the win while Ken Giles closed out the 9th for his 1st save as a Jay and his 13th save of the season. Sean Reid-Foley will be making his major-league debut in this one and was 12-4 with a 2.98 ERA and 146 strikeouts between AA and AAA this season.

Kansas City Royals vs. Toronto Blue Jays - 8/13/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

John E. Sokolowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Royals will look to bounce back after losing three straight and nine of their last ten games following an 8-2 loss in their series finale with the Cardinals on Sunday. Lucas Duda and Rosell Herrera each had an RBI while Salvador Perez went 2 for 4 with a double. Whit Merrifield added a base hit to cap off the offense for the Royals in the losing effort. Jakob Junis gave up one run on three hits while striking out eight, not factoring in the decision. Jason Hammel allowed three runs on three hits without recording an out, taking the loss to fall to 2-12 this season. Brad Keller will start game one and is 4-5 with a 3.57 ERA and 58 strikeouts this season. This will be Keller’s first career start against Toronto.

Toronto is 2-5 in their last 7 games overall and 2-6 in their last 8 games against the AL Central while the over is 7-1 in their last 8 road games against a right-handed starter. Kansas City is 3-8 in Keller’s last 11 starts and 14-44 in their last 58 games overall while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record. Toronto is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.

Normally I don’t back pitchers making their major league debut this late in the season unless something really stands out and the biggest thing that stands out is how bad the Royals have been this season. Reid-Foley has thrown some pretty good stuff in the minors this season, and Toronto just has the better offense, while Kansas City has failed to reach more than three runs in six of their last seven losses. I’ll lay the low line with the Blue Jays on the road on Monday.
