The San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers square off in the opener of a three game NL West division set in MLB action from Dodger Stadium on Monday.

The San Francisco Giants will look to build some momentum after earning a series split with the Pirates following a 4-3 win in the series finale on Sunday. Nick Hundley and Joe Panik each had two RBIs, with Hundley going 2 for 3 at the dish with a triple. Brandon Crawford added a double while Steven Duggar went 2 for 3 and Gorkys Hernandez added a base hit as well to round out the offense for San Francisco in the win. Dereck Rodriguez picked up the win to improve to 6-1 this season after allowing just one run on two hits while striking out four over seven innings of work. Will Smith struck out a pair in the 9th for his 8th save of the season. Madison Bumgarner will start game one and is 4-4 with a 2.69 ERA and 63 strikeouts this season. In his career, Bumgarner is 15-10 with a 2.60 ERA and 188 strikeouts against the Dodgers.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Francisco Giants - 8/13/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Dodgers will be looking to rebound after losing three straight and four of their last five games after a 4-3 loss to Colorado in their last outing. Brian Dozier went 2 for 3 with two RBIs while Matt Kemp added an RBI as well to cap off the Dodgers’ scoring in the loss. Justin Turner added a double while Yasiel Puig and Cody Bellinger each added two hits to finish off the Dodgers’ offense in the losing effort. Rich Hill gave up three runs, two earned, on four hits while striking out four over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Dylan Floor ended up with the loss to fall to 4-3 this season. Clayton Kershaw will start game one and is 5-5 with a 2.58 ERA and 99 strikeouts this season. In his career, Kershaw is 22-10 with a 1.60 ERA and 320 strikeouts against San Francisco.

San Francisco is 1-4 in Bumgarner’s last 5 road starts and 4-12 in Bumgarner’s last 16 division starts while the under is 3-0-1 in their last 4 Monday games. Los Angeles is 47-11 in Kershaw’s last 58 division starts and 19-7 in their last 26 series opening matchups while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games against a left-handed starter. Los Angeles is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings when Kershaw and Bumgarner are starting on the mound.

I’ve had trouble trying to figure each of these two teams out over the weekend. However, while I hate laying heavy juice against another team’s ace, the fact is that the Dodgers have owned the Giants when Kershaw faces Bumgarner and Kershaw has been money against the rest of the NL West while Bumgarner has been mediocre at best. I’ll lay the heavy juice with the Dodgers as the recent play can’t get me confident enough to go on the run line.
