Out at Petco Park on Monday, we’ve got an intrastate MLB series looming between the Los Angeles Angels and the San Diego Padres.
The Angels just wrapped up a set versus the Athletics. After splitting the first two games, on Sunday LA feel in a tough one 8-7.

For the Monday game, the Angels will be going with Andrew Heaney on the mound. In his 127.1 innings and 7-7 mark this year, Heaney has a 3.96 ERA with 122 Ks.
Coming into the week, the Angels’ top hitter was Andrelton Simmons with 122 hits, 56 runs and 53 RBI. On Sunday, Simmons was a scratch but Justin Upton logged two hits, two runs and an RBI.
As for the Padres, they’re fresh off a series against the Phillies. San Diego split the first pair of games, then in the rubber match Sunday the Padres took a 9-3 win.
San Diego is rolling with LHP Clayton Richard on Monday. In his 142.0 innings and 7-10 mark this year, Richard has a 5.13 ERA with 100 Ks and 58 BBs.
San Diego’s lead bat this year is Eric Hosmer, who came into the week on 114 hits, 51 runs, 10 homers and 46 RBI. On Sunday, Hosmer had two hits, a run and an RBI.
The Angels are 4-1 in their last five in game one of a series and 1-4 in their last five Monday games. The under is 10-3-1 in the Angels’ last 14 in game one of a series and 20-7-2 in their last 29 Monday games.
Meanwhile, the Padres are 14-37 in their last 51 in game one of a series and 6-18 in their last 24 Monday games. San Diego is also 1-4 in Richard’s last five starts and 0-4 in his last four starts versus the AL West.
It’s been a bit of a bumpy road for Richard over his last four starts. If you toss out the two-earned effort in 5.0 innings versus the Giants on July 31, Richard has given up 18 earned over three starts in 13.0 innings. That’s obviously not a recent history to trust, so I’m going Angels here.
