The Colorado Rockies and the Houston Astros meet in game one of a two game interleague set from Minute Maid Park in MLB action on Tuesday.

The Colorado Rockies will look to stay hot after winning three straight to take their series with the Dodgers following a 4-3 win in the series finale on Sunday. Charlie Blackmon hit a solo homer while Trevor Story, David Dahl and Chris Iannetta each had RBIs as well in the win. DJ LeMahieu added a double while going 2 for 4 to round out Colorado’s offense as the Rockies mustered up just five hits as a team in the win. Chad Bettis gave up one run on three hits while walking four and striking out three, not factoring in the decision. Wade Davis picked up the win to climb to 2-6 this season. German Marquez will start game one and is 9-9 with a 4.69 ERA and 139 strikeouts this season. This will be Marquez’s first career start against Houston.

Houston Astros vs. Colorado Rockies - 8/14/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Russell Lansford-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Astros will look to bounce back after being swept by the Mariners in their four game set on Sunday by a final score of 4-3. Alex Bregman, Carlos Correa and Evan Gattis each had an RBI to make up Houston’s scoring in the loss, while Marwin Gonzalez went 2 for 4 at the dish. Josh Reddick and Yuli Gurriel each added a base hit to cap off Houston’s offense in the loss. Dallas Keuchel gave up two runs, one earned, on seven hits while striking out five over seven innings of work. Roberto Osuna took the loss, falling to 1-1 as a member of the Astros. Justin Verlander will start game one and is 11-7 with a 2.50 ERA and 206 strikeouts this season. In his career, Verlander is 3-0 with a 1.88 ERA and 25 strikeouts against Colorado.

Colorado is 4-0 in Marquez’s last 4 interleague starts and 1-4 in their last 5 road games while the under is 6-0-1 in their last 7 games against the AL West. Houston is 2-6 in Verlander’s last 8 home starts and 0-8 in their last 8 home games while the under is 7-0 in their last 7 games following a loss.

The plus money with the Rockies is extremely tempting as the offense came to life against the Dodgers and the fact that Marquez is a better pitcher on the road this season, with an ERA just over three, way better than his ERA over six at home this season combined with Verlander allowing six runs in his last start. However, I’ve learned that there are certain things you don’t do in life, one of them being you don’t bet against Justin Verlander in interleague play. JV has a ridiculous 33-6 record with a 2.76 ERA in 46 career interleague starts, including a perfect record against Colorado. Houston will be angry after being swept in such a key series in the division race, so I’ll back the Astros to get the job don’t by a couple of runs on Tuesday.
