The San Francisco Giants and the Cincinnati Reds tangle in game two of their three game set from Great American Ballpark in MLB action on Saturday.

The San Francisco Giants will look to bounce back after dropping the series opener on Friday by a final score of 2-1. Andrew McCutchen accounted for the lone Giants’ RBI, going 3 for 5 at the dish while Joe Panik went 2 for 4 and Steven Duggar added a double. Brandon Belt and Alen Hanson each added a base hit to cap off San Fran’s offense as a team in the losing effort. Casey Kelly threw 4.1 innings, allowing just one run on nine hits, not factoring in the decision. Ray Black took the loss to fall to 2-2 this season. Madison Bumgarner will start game two and is 4-4 with a 2.71 ERA and 67 strikeouts this season. In his career, Bumgarner is 3-4 with a 3.83 ERA and 43 strikeouts against Cincinnati.

David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports

The Cincinnati Reds will look to build on their extra innings win in the series opener on Friday. Curt Casali opened the scoring with an RBI single while Phillip Ervin added a solo homer in the 11th for the walk-off win. Scooter Gennett went 3 for 5 with a double and Jose Peraza had a pair of hits while Tucker Barnhart added a two-bagger of his own in the win. Billy Hamilton and Eugenio Suarez added base hits as well to cap off Cincy’s offense in the victory. Anthony DeSclafani gave up one run over 7.2 innings while striking out five, not factoring in the decision. David Hernandez got the win to improve to 5-0 this season. Matt Harvey will start game two and is 5-7 with a 5.19 ERA ad 84 strikeouts this season. In his career, Harvey is 0-2 with a 5.87 ERA and 20 strikeouts against San Francisco.

San Francisco is 4-11 in Bumgarner’s last 15 road starts and 9-4 in their last 13 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 4-0-1 in their last 5 games overall. Cincinnati is 1-4 in their last 5 games overall and 4-1 in Harvey’s last 5 home starts while the over is 8-1-1 in their last 10 games against the NL West. San Francisco is 0-5 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Cincinnati.

Bumgarner is having an off year in compared to years past, but the fact is that he’s still a staff ace on a team that still has an outside chance at the postseason, but they need to take advantage of games that they should win, this being one of them. Harvey has had a bit of a bounce back in Cincinnati, but he’s been inconsistent lately and has had his fair share of struggles against the Giants in his career. Getting Bumgarner at a reasonable price like this seems like a good play to me so I’ll back the giants on the road in this one.
