The Los Angeles Angels and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet in game one of a two game interleague set from Chase Field in MLB action on Tuesday.
The Los Angeles Angels come into this one looking to rebound after losing their four game set with Texas over the weekend following a 4-2 loss in the series finale on Sunday. Albert Pujols added an Rbi despite going 0 for 4 while David Fletcher and Shohei Ohtani each added a double with Fletcher going 2 for 4 at the dish. Kole Calhoun and Andrelton Simmons each added a base hit as well to round out the Angels’ offense in the losing effort. Jaime Barria gave up one run on seven hits over five innings of work, not factoring in the decision while Noe Ramirez took the loss, falling to 4-4 this season. Felix Pena will start game one and is 1-3 with a 4.35 ERA and 47 strikeouts this season. This will be Pena’s second career start against Arizona.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to keep their momentum going after winning their series with the Padres following a 4-3 win in the series finale on Sunday. A.J. Pollock, David Peralta and Daniel Descalso each belted a solo homer with Pollock going 2 for 5 with a double while Jeff Mathis went 3 for 4 with an RBI as well to round out the scoring for the D-Backs in the win. Paul Goldschmidt, Eduardo Escobar and Ketel Marte each added a base hit as well in the losing effort for Arizona. Zack Greinke gave up all three runs on five hits while striking out seven over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Archie Bradley got the win to improve to 4-4 this season while Brad Boxberger locked up his 28th save of the season. Patrick Corbin will start game one and is 10-4 with a 3.18 ERA and 190 strikeouts this season. This will be Corbin’s first career start against the Angels.
Los Angeles is 10-23 in their last 33 road games and 6-0 in their last 6 games against a left-handed starter while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record. Arizona is 5-0 in Corbin’s last 5 starts and 4-1 in their last 5 games overall while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 home games. Los Angeles is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Arizona.
Corbin has been up and down in terms of giving up runs as of late, but the fact is that the D-Backs have won each of Corbin’s last five starts. Pena has pitched better as of late, but the Angels continue to run hot and cold and are hard to back without Trout in the lineup. Arizona has won six of Corbin’s last seven starts, and each of those six wins have been by two or more runs, so I’ll back Arizona on the run line to get some value out of the bet.
