The San Francisco Giants look for another victory after splitting their last 10 games. The Giants have scored seven runs in their last three games and three or less runs in six of their last nine games. The San Francisco Giants have lost six of their last nine games when scoring four or less runs. Andrew McCutchen leads the Giants with117 hits and 53 RBI while Brandon Crawford and Buster Posey have combined for 227 hits and 85 RBI. The New York Mets also need a win after splitting their last eight games. The Mets have scored 12 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in eight of their last 13 games. The New York Mets have won six of their last nine games when scoring more than one run. Amed Rosario leads the Mets with 100 hits and 40 RBI while Michael Conforto and Brandon Nimmo have combined for 186 hits and 86 RBI. Steven Matz gets the ball, and he is 5-10 with a 4.60 ERA and 101 strikeouts this season. This will be Matz’s second career game against the Giants.
The Giants are 3-7 in their last 10 during game 2 of a series, 0-4 in Strattons last 4 starts on grass and 0-4 in Strattons last 4 starts. The Mets are 12-27 in their last 39 home games, 1-4 in Matzs last 5 home starts and 1-5 in Matzs last 6 starts. The Giants are 2-5 in the last 7 meetings and the over is 9-4-2 in the last 15 meetings.
Stratton hasn't pitched since August 3, and the Giants haven't won with him on the mound since June 17. Matz has allowed four or more runs in each of his last four starts and has had a serious problem keeping the ball in the park. Good luck betting on this contest. I'm going with the Mets if forced to pick, as Stratton has been awful, allowing a .291 batting average on the season and not getting consistent reps can't help a guy improve. The Mets offense has also been far more consistent this month. Don't love this game at all, however, for obvious reasons.
