The San Francisco Giants and the New York Mets meet in the finale of their four game set from Citi Field in MLB action on Thursday.

The San Francisco Giants will look to salvage a series split with the Mets after dropping game three on Wednesday by a final score of 5-3. Austin Slater went 2 for 4 with a solo home run while Joe Panik matched that mark at the dish with an RBI and Steven Duggar added an RBI of his own to round out the Giants’ scoring in the loss. Evan Longoria and Gorkys Hernandez each added a base hit as well to finish off the Giants’ offense in the losing effort. Casey Kelly took the loss, falling to 0-2 this season after allowing four runs, two earned, on seven hits while striking out four over six innings of work. Madison Bumgarner will start the finale and is 4-5 with a 3.05 ERA and 73 strikeouts this season. In his career, Bumgarner is 5-0 with a 1.80 ERA and 46 strikeouts against the Mets.

Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Mets will look to win the series after winning game three on Wednesday. Todd Frazier led the Mets with two RBIs, going 2 for 4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs. Jose Bautista and Dominic Smith each added a solo home run while Jeff McNeil went 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI to round out the scoring for the Mets in the win. Jose Reyes added a double while Jack Reinheimer and Michael Conforto each added a base knock to cap off New York’s offense in the victory. Noah Syndergaard got the win to improve to 9-3 this season after giving up two runs on five hits while striking out six over six innings of work. Paul Sewald closed out the 9th for his 1st save of the season. Jacob deGrom will start game four and is 8-7 with a 1.71 ERA and 204 strikeouts this season. In his career, deGrom is 4-1 with a 3.12 ERA and 45 strikeouts against San Francisco.

San Francisco is 10-21 in Bumgarner’s last 31 starts and 1-6 in their last 7 games overall while the under is 4-1-1 in Bumgarner’s last 6 road starts. New York is 7-3 in deGrom’s last 10 starts against the NL West and 5-2 in their last 7 home games against a team with a losing record while the under is 4-1 in deGrom’s last 5 home starts. New York is 5-1 in deGrom’s last 6 starts against San Francisco.

Bumgarner has owned the Mets in his career, including an ERA under one in his career at Citi Field. However, Bumgarner isn’t the ace we’re used to seeing on the mound in years past, as MadBum has an ERA just shy of five on the road this season. deGrom hasn’t had a ton of luck in terms of receiving support, but for most of the season, he’s pitched well enough to give the Mets a chance if they can put runs on the board. I was burned by the Mets earlier in this set, but I think deGrom gives the Mets a slight edge in this one.
