The Chicago White Sox and the Detroit Tigers meet in game three of their four game AL Central division set from Comerica Park in MLB action on Saturday.
The Chicago White Sox will look to build on a 6-3 win over Detroit thanks to a 6-run 8th inning to even up the series at one win apiece.. Yoan Moncada and Tim Anderson each had a double and two RBIs, while Daniel Palka added a pair of doubles and an RBI and Avisail Garcia added a run on the board as well to round out Chicago’s scoring in the win. Omar Narvaez went 2 for 4 while Adam Engel added a base hit of his own in the winning effort. Reynaldo Lopez gave up two runs on four hits while walking three and striking out seven over 5.2 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Thyago Vieira got the win in relief to improve to 1-0 this season. Lucas Giolito will start game three and is 9-9 with a 6.08 ERA and 97 startikeouts this season. In his career, Giolito is 2-1 with a 4.88 ERA and 21 strikeouts against Detroit.

The Detroit Tigers will look to bounce back after letting one get away in game two on Friday. Nick Castellanos led Detroit by going 2 for 5 with two RBIs while Victor Reyes added a double. Jeimer Candelario, Jose Iglesias, Niko Goodrum, Mikie Mahtook and James McCann each added a base hit in the losing effort. Michael Fulmer threw 4.2 shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out four, not factoring in the decision. Joe Jimenez ended up with the loss to fall to 4-3 this season. Ryan Carpenter will start game three and is 1-1 with a 6.00 ERA and 10 strikeouts this season. This will be Carpenter’s first career start against the White Sox.
Chicago is 6-1 in Giolito’s last 7 starts and 7-2 in their last 9 road games while the over is 4-0-1 in Giolito’s last 5 starts against a team with a losing record. Detroit is 2-6 in their last 8 division matchups and 17-39 in their last 56 games overall while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 Saturday games. Chicago is 4-11 in the last 15 meetings between these two teams.
Good luck trying to figure out which of these two struggling teams is going to come out on top in this one. However, Giolito is a far better pitcher on the road than he is at home, with a 6-4 record with a 4.54 ERA away from Chicago compared to a 3-5 record with an 8.18 ERA at home. Carpenter has yet to get out of the 6th inning in his major league career and in two combined starts where Carpenter has finished 5+ innings, he has allowed nine runs, eight earned, in 10.1 innings of work. The White Sox have also won six of Giolito’s last seven starts so if forced to pick, I’d take a shot with the White Sox and the even money on Saturday.
