Los Angeles Angels vs. Houston Astros - 8/25/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Angels could use a win after losing six of their last seven games. The Angels have allowed 19 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in seven straight games. The Los Angeles Angels have lost 13 of their last 16 games when allowing more than three runs. Offensively, Andrelton Simmons leads the Angels with 130 hits and 58 RBI while Justin Upton and Mike Trout have combined for 238 hits and 134 RBI. Jaime Barria gets the ball, and he is 8-7 with a 3.41 ERA and 76 strikeouts this season. This will be Barria’s second career game against the Astros.

The Astros are 36-16 in their last 52 during game 2 of a series, 5-12 in their last 17 vs. American League West and 14-3 in Verlanders last 17 road starts. The Angels are 2-5 in their last 7 during game 2 of a series, 1-5 in their last 6 vs. American League West and 4-1 in Barrias last 5 starts. The Astros are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Los Angeles, 4-1 in the last 5 meetings and 5-0 in Verlanders last 5 starts vs. Angels.

The Astros have lost four of Verlander's last seven starts, but it has little to do with Verlander and more to do with a banged up Astros offense that isn't producing. The Astros are as healthy as they've been in a while, and Verlander is still a pitcher who is allowing a .206 batting average on the season and has given up two or less runs in six of his last nine starts. The Los Angeles Angels have been piling up the losses all month, the pitching staff can't stop getting rocked and this looks like a team ready for the offseason. Overall, this is a rather cheap price for one of the top pitchers in baseball. I'll take it.
