The Oakland A’s and the Minnesota Twins meet in game three of their four game set from Target Field in MLB action on Saturday.
The Oakland A’s will look to build some momentum after evening up the series at one win apiece following a 7-1 win in game two on Friday. Matt Chapman led the A’s with a three-run home run, while Stephen Piscotty and Ramon Laureano each had a solo home run. Jonathan Lucroy went 3 for 4 with an RBI while Matt Olson added an RBI of his own to round out Oakland’s scoring in the win. Mark Canha added a double while Jed Lowrie and Nick Martini each added a base hit in the winning effort. Sean Manaea got the win after allowing just an unearned run on five hits over five innings of work. Mike Fiers will start game three and is 9-6 with a 3.21 ERA and 108 strikeouts this season. In his career, Fiers is 5-1 with a 3.06 ERA and 49 strikeouts against Minnesota.

The Minnesota Twins will look to bounce back after dropping game two on Friday. Miguel San accounted for the lone Twins RBI in the loss, while Eddie Rosario and Robbie Grossman each added a pair of hits in the losing effort. Joe Mauer went 1 for 4 to round out Minnesota’s offense in the defeat. Jake Odorizzi took the loss, falling to 5-8 this season after allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits while striking out four over seven innings of work. Stephen Gonsalves will start game three and is 0-1 with a 27.00 ERA and 3 strikeouts this season. This will be Gonsalves’ first career start against Oakland.
Oakland is 18-5 in their last 23 games against a left-handed starter and 43-16 in their last 59 games overall while the under is 6-0-2 in their last 8 Saturday games. Minnesota is 3-10 in their last 13 games against the AL West and 20-7 in their last 27 home games while the over is 8-2 in their last 10 Saturday games. Oakland is 28-13 in the last 41 meetings between these two teams and 2-5 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams in Minnesota.
Oakland’s lost a game or two here and there, but the fact for this game is that we are getting the much better team at a reasonable price given the situation. Fiers has been solid since joining the A’s, going 2-0 with a 1.47 ERA in three starts with Oakland and it doesn’t hurt that Fiers has had tremendous numbers against the Twins in his career. On the other hand, Gonsalves got rocked in his major league debut, allowing four runs while failing to get out of the second inning against the lowly White sox. All in all, Oakland has been pretty much money against left-handed pitching lately and I think this is a game that Oakland takes handily to keep pace in the division title race.
