The Cincinnati Reds and the Chicago Cubs meet in the finale of their four game NL Central division set from Wrigley Field in MLB action on Sunday.
The Cincinnati Reds will look to salvage a win and avoid the sweep after dropping the first three games of the set following a 10-6 loss in game three on Saturday. Curt Casali led the Reds by going 2 for 3 with a home run, a double and four RBIs. Preston Tucker added a pinch-hit solo home run, while starting pitcher Luis Castillo tried to help his own cause with an RBI in the losing effort. Eugenio Suarez went 2 for 5 while Scott Schebler, Jose Peraza, Scooter Gennett, Phillip Ervin, Tucker Barnhart and Brandon Dixon each added a base hit to round out Cincy’s offense in the loss. Castillo took the loss, falling to 7-11 this season after allowing five runs on five hits over just 3.1 innings of work. Homer Bailey will start game four and is 1-11 with a 6.21 ERA and 64 strikeouts this season. In his career, Bailey is 8-4 with a 4.83 ERA and 100 strikeouts against the Cubs.

The Chicago Cubs will look to complete the sweep after their game three victory on Saturday. Daniel Murphy and Javier Baez each had a home run and three RBIs, while Kyle Schwarber added a home run and two RBIs. Ian Happ and Anthony Rizzo each added an RBI to round out Chicago’s scoring in the win, with Rizzo going 2 for 4 with a double. Ben Zobrist went 3 for 5 while Willson Contreras and Tommy La Stella each added a double to round out the Cubs’ offense in the victory. Jose Quintana got the win to improve to 11-9 this season after giving up two runs on six this over five innings of work. Kyle Hendricks will start game four and is 9-10 with a 4.04 ERA and 126 strikeouts this season. In his career, Hendricks is 4-2 with a 3.80 ERA and 63 strikeouts against Cincinnati.
Cincinnati is 1-16 in Bailey’s last 17 starts and 1-5 in their last 6 division matchups while the under is 3-0-1 in Bailey’s last 4 division starts. Chicago is 5-1 in Hendricks’ last 6 home starts and 18-6 in their last 24 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 division matchups. Cincinnati is 0-5 in Bailey’s last 5 starts against the Cubs.
Bailey actually has decent numbers against the Cubs in his career, but let’s not forget that it’s a career that goes back to 2007. This season, Bailey has allowed six runs in just 4.2 innings in his lone start against the Cubs, and the Reds have gone an atrocious 1-16 with Bailey on the mound this season, leading me to wonder why he is still in the majors at this point. Either way, the Cubs are playing far better baseball right now and have to be the play on Sunday so to negate the heavy juice, I’ll back the Cubs on the run line as I think Chicago rolls to a sweep here.
