For the Sunday game, the Astros will be bringing out Framber Valdez. In his 4.0 innings and 1-0 mark this year, Valdez has a clean 0.00 ERA and four Ks.
Jose Altuve is tops in the Astros’ offense, with 138 hits, 66 runs, 10 homers and 48 RBI entering the weekend. On Saturday, Altuve had two hits, two runs and an RBI.
As for the Angels, they’re rolling with Felix Pena on Sunday. In his 55.2 innings and 1-3 mark this season, Pena has a 4.53 ERA with 59 Ks.
Leading the way for the Angels in hitting this year is Andrelton Simmons, who came into the weekend with 130 hits, 57 runs and 58 RBI. On Saturday, Simmons had one hit and an RBI.
The Astros are 1-5 in their last six Sunday games and 0-4 in their last four games versus a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30. The over is 9-3-1 in the Astros’ last 13 in game three of a series and 39-19-3 in their last 61 Sunday games.
Meanwhile, the Angels are 0-4 in their last four Sunday games and 2-5 in Pena’s last seven starts. LA is 2-5 in Pena’s last seven starts on grass and 1-4 in his last five starts versus a team with a winning record.
In his Major-League debut on Tuesday, Valdez looked great in relief to bag his first win, and his presence here marks the second LHP of this three-game set. As for Pena, he gave up four runs on seven hits in six innings his last time up in Arizona. This should be a very close game so I’m staying away. That said, I’m jumping on the Valdez bandwagon and taking the Astros.
