The Miami Marlins and the Boston Red Sox meet in the opener of a mini two game interleague set from Fenway Park in MLB action on Tuesday.
The Miami Marlins will look to bounce back after settling for a series split with the Atlanta Braves, losing the series finale by a final score of 4-0 on Sunday. Derek Dietrich and starting pitcher Pablo Lopez each hit a single as the Fish put up just two hits as a team in the losing effort, while the rest of the team went 0 for 24 with 9 strikeouts in the loss. Lopez took the loss, falling to 2-4 this season after allowing one run on six hits while walking five and striking out four. Jose Urena will start game one and is 4-12 with a 4.50 ERA and 108 strikeouts this season. This will be Urena’s second career start against Boston.

The Boston Red Sox will look to bounce back after losing three straight and six of their last eight games following a 9-1 loss in their series finale with Tampa Bay, sweeping the Red Sox and handing Boston their first sweep this season. Mookie Betts put up Boston’s lone RBI, while Jackie Bradley Jr. added a double and Eduardo Nunez added a base hit of his own as Boston cranked out just three hits as a team, as the rest of the Red Sox went 0 for 19 with 5 strikeouts in the loss. Nathan Eovaldi took the loss, falling to 5-6 this season after allowing six runs, five earned, on eight hits while striking out five over four innings of work. Brian Johnson will start game one and is 4-3 with a 4.12 ERA and 75 strikeouts this season. This will be Johnson’s second career start against Miami.
Miami is 7-20 in Urena’s last 27 starts and 7-18 in their last 25 games overall while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record. Boston is 46-18 in their last 64 home games and 39-15 in their last 54 games overall while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against the NL East. Miami is 2-9 in the last 11 meetings between these two teams and 0-5 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Boston.
Urena dazzled in his first start back from suspension, throwing a complete game against Washington, so the plus money is tempting. However, the Marlins are still one of the worst teams in the majors and have trouble consistently putting up offense to help out the pitching. The Red Sox also just have this uncanny ability to win when Johnson starts on the mound and you have to imagine that the BoSox will be fired up after being swept for the first time this season. All in all I like Boston to come out swinging and take game one on Tuesday.
