The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Tampa Bay Rays meet in the opener of a two game set from Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas on Tuesday.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to keep the momentum going after winning three straight, completing the sweep of the San Diego Padres with a 7-3 win in the series finale on Sunday. Justin Turner led the charge by going 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles and five RBIs, while Manny Machado added a home run and two RBIs. Enrique Hernandez went 3 for 4 with a double while Matt Kemp went 2 for 4 with a two-bagger of his own. Starting pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu added a pair of hits of his own to cap off the Dodgers’ offense in the win. Ryu got the win on the mound to improve to 4-1 this season after allowing two runs on eleven hits while striking out eight over 5.2 innings of work. Walker Buehler will start game one and is 6-4 with a 2.96 ERA and 102 strikeouts this season. This will be Buehler’s first career start against Texas.

The Texas Rangers will look to rebound after dropping the rubber match of their series with San Francisco, falling on Sunday by a final score of 3-1. Elvis Andrus went 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI to make up all of Texas’ scoring in the loss. Nomar Mazara added a double of his own, while Joey Gallo, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Shin-Soo Choo each added a base hit as Texas put up just five hits as a team in the losing effort. Yovani Gallardo took the loss, falling to 7-3 this season after allowing three runs on four hits over five innings of work. Ariel Jurado will start game one and is 2-3 with a 6.40 ERA and 12 strikeouts this season. This will be Jurado’s first career start against the Dodgers.
Los Angeles is 10-2 in their last 12 interleague games against a team with a losing record and 20-6 in their last 26 series opening matchups while the over is 4-1 in Buehler’s last 5 road starts. Texas is 6-2 in their last 8 home games and 17-37 in their last 54 home games against a team with a winning road record while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. The under is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams.
Jurado has has flashes of solid pitching for the Rangers, but the fact is that the Rookie has allowed four or more runs in four of his six career starts, including each of his last three starts for a total of 16 runs over 16.2 innings of work. Buehler has had hiccups himself, but Buehler’s also allowed two runs or less in his last five starts and in six of his last seven and at least the Dodgers offense is there to pick him up more often than not if he gets in a jam. Jurado gets run support, but can’t keep crooked numbers off of the board. I’ll side with the Dodgers to draw first blood, and to negate the heavy juice, I’ll back L.A. on the run line.
