The Cubs logged nine hits and five free passes with Javier Baez accounting for the scoring with his 29th homer in the 5th  inning.

Chicago sends Kyle Hendricks to the bump looking for consecutive victories. Hendricks defeated Cincinnati 9-0 last time out with a two hit shutout over seven frames.

The Philadelphia Phillies squeezed out of a few tough spots to edge the visiting Cubs in extra innings. Philadelphia starter Nick Pivetta allowed the only run over five frames while five relievers tossed shutout baseball.

The Phillies did their damage on four hits and a base on balls with Cesar Hernandez recording an RBI while Asdrubal Cabrera homered.

Zach Eflin draws Saturday’s starting assignment against Chicago. Eflin dropped a 5-3 decision versus Washington last time out with five runs (three earned) plated in 5.1 frames.

Chicago are 8-1 in their last 9 overall and Chicago are 8-1 in their last 9 games on grass and under is 8-2 in Chicago last 10 road games. Under is 8-2 in Philadelphia last 10 Saturday games and Philadelphia are 2-6 in their last 8 games on grass and Philadelphia are 3-8 in their last 11 overall. Over is 7-3-1 in the last 11 meetings and Chicago are 11-5 in the last 16 meetings.

The Phillies win some ugly games because their offense isn’t great and I hope they get another ugly one Saturday…
