The Kansas City Royals and the Cleveland Indians meet in game two of a three game AL Central division set from Progressive Field in MLB action on Tuesday.
The Kansas City Royals will look to stay hot after winning six straight and eight of their last nine games following a 5-1 win in game one on Monday. Ryan O’Hearn led the Royals by going 3 for 4 with a pair of home runs, a double and three RBIs, while Hunter Dozier and Jorge Bonifacio each added a solo shot to round out KC’s scoring in the winning effort. Adalberto Mondesi went 2 for 4 with a double while Brian Goodwin, Alcides Escobar and Cam Gallagher each added a base hit to cap off KC’s offense in the win. Jakob Junis got the win to improve to 8-12 this season after throwing seven shutout innings, striking out six. Danny Duffy will start game two and is 8-11 with a 4.72 ERA and 141 strikeouts this season. In his career, Duffy is 2-9 with a 5.38 ERA and 66 strikeouts against Cleveland.

The Cleveland Indians will look to bounce back after dropping game one on Monday. Francisco Lindor went 2 for 4, with a solo home run accounting for Cleveland’s lone run in the loss. Michael Brantley and Yonder Alonso each had a base hit as well to round out the Tribe’s offense, as Cleveland mustered up just four hits as a team in the loss. Adam Plutko took the loss, falling to 4-5 this season after allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out eight. Mike Clevinger will start game two and is 10-7 with a 3.17 ERA and 172 strikeouts this season. In his career, Clevinger is 4-0 with a 2.49 ERA and 42 strikeouts against Kansas City.
Kansas City is 8-1 in their last 9 games overall and 6-1 in their last 7 division matchups while the under is 3-1-1 in their last 5 road games. Cleveland is 4-1 in Clevinger’s last 5 starts and 61-24 in their last 85 division matchups while the under is 7-1-2 in their last 10 home games. Kansas City is 0-8 in Duffy’s last 8 starts against Cleveland and 0-5 in Duffy’s last 5 road starts against Cleveland while Cleveland is 4-1 in Clevinger’s last 5 starts at home against KC.
I have no idea where this winning stretch from the Royals came from, but it can’t last forever. I know it’s probably not a good idea given how well the Royals have played lately, but Duffy’s record against Cleveland in his career makes me think that he’s going to be the pitcher to falter to snap the winning streak. Clevinger has been very good against KC in his career and I think he maintains that record with a win here and to negate the heavy juice, I’ll side with Cleveland on the run line.
