The St. Louis Cardinals and the Washington Nationals meet in the rubber match of their three game set from Nationals Park in MLB action on Wednesday.

The St. Louis Cardinals will look to win the set after taking game two on Tuesday by a final score of 11-8. Yadier Molina led the Cardinals with four RBIs coming on a 9th inning grand slam, while Marcell Ozuna and Matt Carpenter each had two RBIs with Ozuna belting a pair of solo home runs. Paul DeJong and Patrick Wisdom each had a solo homer as well to cap off St. Louis’ scoring in the win. Harrison Bader and Yairo Munoz each had a base hit to finish off the Cardinals’ offense in the winning effort. John Gant gave up three unearned runs over 4.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Tyson Ross got the win to improve to 8-9 this season while Jordan Hicks picked up his 9th save of the year. Miles Mikolas will start the finale and is 13-4 with a 2.96 ERA and 117 strikeouts this season. This will be Mikolas’ second career start against Washington.

Washington Nationals vs. St. Louis Cardinals - 9/5/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Nationals will look to win the set after dropping game two on Tuesday. Ryan Zimmerman and Bryce Harper each had a pair of RBIs and a double while Wilmer Difo added a solo home run. Trea Turner, Anthony Rendon and Juan Soto each had an RBI to round out Washington’s scoring, with Rendon adding a double to the cause. Pedro Seven and Adam Eaton each had a base hit to round out the Nationals’ offense in the loss. Erick Fedde allowed four runs on four hits while striking out seven over five innings of work, not factoring in the decision, while Austen Williams took the loss to fall to 0-1 this season. Tanner Roark will start game three and is 8-14 with a 4.03 ERA and 137 strikeouts this season. In his career, Roark is 2-2 with a 5.57 ERA and 11 strikeouts against St. Louis.

St. Louis is 6-1 in Mikolas’ last 7 starts and 10-2 in their last 12 road games while the over is 4-1 in Mikolas’ last 5 road starts. Washington is 2-8 in Roark’s last 10 home starts against a team with a winning record and 1-7 in their last 8 game 3 matchups while the over is 8-3-1 in their last 12 home games. The over is 11-5-5 in the last 21 meetings between these two teams.

Roark is starting to regress back to the pitcher that struggled at the beginning of the season, allowing four runs in his last start with the Nationals giving their starter just one run of support over his last two starts. Roark is also a better starter on the road than at Nationals Park where Roark has an ERA of just under five. The lack of run support won’t help with Roark boasting a 5.57 ERA against the Cardinals in his career, and while Mikolas has had his ups and downs, he is 7-0 on the road this season in 13 starts. I’ll take the hotter team with the pitching advantage at plus money on Wednesday.
