The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Colorado Rockies square off in game one of their three game NL West division set from Coors Field in MLB action on Friday.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to close the distance in the division race and bounce back after losing their series with the Mets, including a 7-3 loss in the series finale on Wednesday. All of the Dodgers’ offense came via the long ball, as Max Muncy hit a two run home run and Cody Bellinger added a solo shot. Justin Turner added a base hit as the Dodgers mustered up just three hits as a team in the losing effort. Hyun-Jin Ryu ended up with the loss, falling to 4-2 this season after allowing five runs, three earned, on 11 hits while striking out eight over six innings of work. Clayton Kershaw will start game one and is 6-5 with a 2.40 ERA and 127 strikeouts this season. In his career, Kershaw is 21-7 with a 3.22 ERA and 260 strikeouts against Colorado.

Colorado Rockies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers - 9/7/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

The Colorado Rockies will look to stay hot after winning five straight, completing the three game sweep of the San Francisco Giants with a 5-3 win in the series finale on Wednesday. Trevor Story belted a trio of solo home runs, while DJ Lemahieu went 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI and Nolan Arenado added an RBI of his own to round out Colorado’s scoring in the win. Carlos Gonzalez added a double and Matt Holliday chipped in a base hit to cap off the Rockies’ offense in victory. Antonio Senzatela allowed three runs on nine hits while striking out six over five innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Harrison Musgrave got the win to improve to 2-3 this season, while Adam Ottavino picked up his 6th save of the season. Jon Gray will start game one and is 11-7 with a 4.70 ERA and 164 strikeouts this season. In his career, Gray is 3-3 with a 3.78 ERA and 54 strikeouts against the Dodgers.

Los Angeles is 49-12 in Kershaw’s last 61 division starts and 9-3 in their last 12 games overall while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 road games. Colorado is 10-1 in Gray’s last 11 starts and 16-5 in their last 21 games against a left-handed starter while the under is 22-7-1 in their last 30 home games. Los Angeles is 25-6 in Kershaw’s last 31 starts against Colorado and 9-1 in Kershaw’s last 10 road starts against Colorado.

I’ve gone back and forth on this game, as both sides need this game, with the Dodgers right behind Colorado in the division race. However, while the Rockies don’t seem to lose with Gray on the mound (including a start against the Dodgers already this season), Gray gave up four runs in 5.2 innings against the Dodgers in his lone start against L.A. this season, and the fact is, from a value standpoint, you never get Kershaw at this kind of price. Yes, Kershaw has an ERA up over four at Coors Field in his career, but who doesn’t, and Kershaw has pretty much owned the Rockies in his career. I’ll lay the juice with the Dodgers to draw first blood on Friday.
