The Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets meet in game one of a three game NL East division set from Citi Field in MLB action on Friday.

The Philadelphia Phillies are in dire need of a win after losing four of their last five games, including the rubber match of their three game set with Miami by a final score of 2-1 on Wednesday. Asdrubal Cabrera accounted for the lone Phillies’ RBI, while Carlos Santana and Jose Bautista each had a double. Jorge Alfaro added three hits to round out Philly’s output at the plate as the Phils put up just six hits as a team in the loss. Nick Pivetta took the loss after allowing both runs on three hits while striking out four over four innings of work to fall to 7-11 this season. Aaron Nola will start game one and is 15-4 with a 2.23 ERA and 188 strikeouts this season. In his career, Nola is 5-1 with a 3.29 ERA and 43 strikeouts against the Mets.

New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies - 9/7/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Mets will look to keep their momentum going after winning five of their last seven games following a 7-3 win in their series finale against the Dodgers on Wednesday. Wilmer Flores led the Mets with two RBIs, while Amed Rosario, Michael Conforto and Austin Jackson each added an RBI, with Rosario going 3 for 5 with a double. Kevin Plawecki went 2 for 3 with a double and Brandon Nimmo added two hits of his own to round out the Mets’ offense in the win. Zack Wheeler got the win to improve to 10-7 this season after allowing all three runs on three hits while striking out nine over seven innings of work. Steven Matz will start game one and is 5-11 with a 4.20 ERA and 124 strikeouts this season. In his career, Matz is 0-2 with a 4.97 ERA and 6 strikeouts against Philadelphia.

Philadelphia is 11-1 in Nola’s last 12 starts against a team with a losing record and 6-14 in their last 20 road games while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 games against a left-handed starter. New York is 2-5 in Matz’s last 7 home starts and 17-35 in their last 52 games following a win while the over is 4-0 in Matz’s last 4 division starts. Philadelphia is 5-1 in Nola’s last 6 starts against the Mets.

It’s no secret that these two teams have been going in different directions over the last week, with Philly struggling and the Mets having their bats come to life. Nola also struggled in his last start, however while Nola is a better pitcher at home, his ERA is nearly identical on the road and Nola’s still 6-3 away from home this season. Nola is also 3-0 with a 1.44 ERA and 29 strikeouts with four earned runs allowed over 25 innings against the Mets this season. Matz on the other hand has allowed seven runs in seven innings against the Phillies this season. Gotta take the Phillies with their ace at the reasonable price on Friday.
