Washington Nationals vs. Chicago Cubs - 9/7/18 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Nationals could use a win here after losing six of their last eight games. The Nationals have scored 18 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in six straight games. The Washington Nationals have lost five of their last seven games when allowing more than one run. Trea Turner leads the Nationals with 156 hits and 59 RBI while Anthony Rendon and Bryce Harper have combined for 252 hits and 157 RBI. Joe Ross gets the ball, and he was 5-3 with a 5.01 ERA and 68 strikeouts last season. Ross is 0-2 with a 3.44 ERA and 20 strikeouts in his career against the Cubs.

The Cubs are 4-1 in their last 5 Friday games, 21-7 in their last 28 during game 2 of a series and 56-25 in Lesters last 81 starts. The Nationals are 2-5 in their last 7 Friday games, 16-5 in Ross' last 21 home starts and 5-2 in Ross' last 7 starts. The Cubs are 1-4 in Lesters last 5 starts vs. Nationals.

Lester has allowed four runs in his last 23.2 innings and has been really sharp on the road where he has an ERA under three. Ross hasn't pitched at all this season as he recovers from Tommy John surgery, so who knows what to expect from him when his last time pitching was July of 2017. Not to mention it seems like the Washington Nationals have accepted where they're at and have checked out on the season with the losses piling up. I'll take the Cubs and the reasonable price, as it's hard to get behind the Nats these days.
