The Cardinals mustered six hits and a walk with Marcell Ozuna going 2-4 with a home and a pair of RBI’s and two runs while Francisco Pena cracked a sacrifice fly to drive in Kolten Wong.
The Cardinals have named Jack Flaherty as Saturday’s starter at Detroit. Flaherty comes off of a 4-3 loss (ND) at Washington with a run allowed over five innings.
The Detroit Tigers outlasted the visiting Cardinals on Friday night behind strong work out of the pen and some late offense. Detroit starter Daniel Norris gave up all three runs with four relievers tossing four shutout innings.
The Tigers banged out eight hits and walked four times with Jeimar Candelario going 3-5 with a walk off two run bomb and two runs while Nicholas Castellanos knocked in a pair followed by Victor Reyes with two runs.
Detroit sends Matthew Boyd to the mound for his first career start against St. Louis. Boyd defeated the Yankees last time 11-7 with three runs given up through six frames.
St. Louis are 14-3 in their last 17 road games and are 20-7 in their last 27 overall and are 20-7 in their last 27 games on grass. Over is 15-5-2 in Detroit last 22 on grass and over is 15-5-2 in Detroit last 22 overall and Detroit are 4-10 in their last 14 interleague games. St. Louis are 2-8 in the last 10 meetings in Detroit.
I think Boyd gives the Tigers a chance here and if I were to bet this I’d go with the better odds…
