The Toronto Blue Jays and the Cleveland Indians meet in the finale of their four game set from Rogers Centre in MLB action on Sunday.
The Cleveland Indians will look to win the set after riding a 7-run 5th inning to a 9-8 win in game three on Saturday. Roberto Perez led the Tribe by going 2 for 4 with a double, a home run and four RBIs. Michael Brantley added a homer and two RBIs while Jason Kipnis and Greg Allen each added an RBI as well, with Allen chipping in a double. Francisco Lindor, Jose Ramirez, Yonder Alonso, Melky Cabrera and Brandon Barnes each added a base hit to round out Cleveland’s offense in the winning effort. Adam Plutko gave up five runs on nine hits while striking out four over 4.2 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Josh Tomlin ended up with the win while Cody Allen notched his 26th save of the season. Mike Clevinger will start game four and is 11-7 with a 3.11 ERA and 182 strikeouts this season. This will be Clevinger’s second career start against Toronto.

The Toronto Blue Jays will look to salvage a series split after dropping game three with a valiant comeback on Saturday that fell just short. Kendrys Morales, Randal Grichuk and Aledmys Diaz each had two RBIs, with Grichuk hitting a pair of solo homers while Diaz went 4 for 5 with 3 doubles. Richard Urena and Rowdy Tellez each had an RBI with Tellez hitting a solo homer while Urena added a double. Billy McKinney, Kevin Pillar and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. each had two hits with Pillar adding a pair of doubles and Gurriel Jr. adding a two-bagger of his own while Danny Jansen chipped in a double to round out the Jays’ offense in the losing effort. Sean Reid-Foley took the loss to fall to 1-3 this season after giving up six runs on five hits while walking five and whiffing three over 4.2 innings of work. Thomas Pannone will start the finale and is 1-1 with a 4.58 ERA and 13 strikeouts this season. This will be Pannone’s first career start against Cleveland.
Cleveland is 5-1 in Clevinger’s last 6 starts and 83-32 in their last 115 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 road games against a left-handed starter. Toronto is 2-5 in their last 7 home games against a team with a winning road record and 0-4 in their last 4 game 4 matchups while the over is 12-4 in their last 16 Sunday games. The over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
The issue with Pannone is that we’ve only seen him start against Baltimore, and he’s been good in relief. However, Pannone’s last start was awful, allowing seven runs in just 3.1 innings against Baltimore. Clevinger has had his ups and downs too but the Jays are just playing spoiler and it’s hard to spoil against Cleveland when the Indians are close to clinching their division. I’ll side with the Tribe to win the series on Sunday.
