The Milwaukee Brewers and the Chicago Cubs lock up in game one of a crucial three game NL Central division set from Wrigley Field in MLB action on Monday.
The Milwaukee Brewers will look to stay hot after winning six of their last seven games following a sweep of the Giants including a 6-3 win in game three on Sunday. Jonathan School led the Brew Crew with five RBIs, including a grand slam, while Ryan Braun added a double and an RBI to round out Milwaukee’s scoring in the win. Lorenzo Cain, Christian Yelich and Jesus Aguilar each had a base hit to round out Milwaukee’s offense as the Brewers cranked out just five hits as a team in the winning effort. Zach Davies allowed two runs on six hits over five innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Corbin Burnes got the win to improve to 4-0 this season while Corey Knebel threw 1.1 perfect innings of relief for his 15th save of the season. Wade Miley will start game one and is 3-2 with a 2.12 ERA and 44 strikeouts this season. In his career, Miley is 5-2 with a 4.13 ERA and 50 strikeouts against the Cubs.

The Chicago Cubs will look to get back to playing baseball after having their series finale with Washington postponed, leaving the Cubs with having to settle for one win out of three games after dropping their last meeting 6-5 on Saturday. Vic Caratini had a grand slam while Kris Bryant added a double and an RBI and Javier Baez added a two-bagger of his own in the losing effort. Albert Almora Jr., Kyle Schwarber and Tommy La Stella each contributed a base hit to round out the Cubs offense in the defeat. Justin Wilson ended up with the loss, falling to 4-4 on the year with the defeat. Jon Lester will start game one and is 15-5 with a 3.53 ERA and 126 strikeouts this season. In his career, Lester is 4-2 with a 2.40 ERA and 48 strikeouts against Milwaukee.
Milwaukee is 4-1 in Miley’s last 5 starts and 6-1 in their last 7 games overall while the over is 4-1 in Miley’s last 5 division starts. Chicago is 5-2 in their last 7 division matchups and 42-20 in their last 62 home games while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games overall. Milwaukee is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
Chicago has a rest advantage sure, but the Cubs weren’t playing great baseball in their series with Washington, while Milwaukee is catching fire just at the right time. Miley held the Cubs to one run over six innings in his last start and has allowed no more than three runs in any start this season and two runs or less in 11 of his 12 starts. Lester has won his last four starts, but the value is all with Milwaukee on Monday and that’s where I’ll side.
