The New York Yankees and the Minnesota Twins will be kicking off their MLB series on Monday from Target Field.
The Yankees are fresh off a set against the Mariners. New York took the first two games of that set, then on Sunday the Yankees couldn’t complete the sweep with a 3-2 loss.

For the Monday game, the Yankees will be bringing out lefty JA Happ. In his 154.2 innings and 15-6 mark this year, Happ has a 3.90 ERA with 170 Ks and 44 BBs.
Youngster Miguel Andujar leads the Yankees in offense this season, coming out of the week on 148 hits, 74 runs, 23 homers and 76 RBI. On Sunday, Andujar had two hits and an RBI.
Over on the Twins’ side, they just played the Royals this weekend. After splitting the first two games, on Sunday Minnesota won 3-1.
On Monday, the Twins are going with Kyle Gibson in the start. Over
The Twins’ top hitter this year is Eddie Rosario, who came out of the week on 156 hits, 85 runs, 23 homers and 75 RBI. On Sunday, Rosario whiffed 0-for-4.
The Yankees are 1-4 in their last five Monday games and 6-1 in Happ’s last seven starts. New York is 6-1 in Happ’s last seven starts on grass and 4-1 in his last five starts versus a team with a losing record.
Meanwhile, the Twins are 2-5 in Gibson’s last seven starts and 1-4 in his last five starts in game one of a series. Minnesota is 1-8 in Gibson’s last nine Monday starts and 0-4 in his last four starts versus a team with a winning record.
Aside from one bad start (five earned in 4.1 innings against Detroit), Happ has been the most consistent Yankees pitcher since late July when he joined the team. As for Gibson, he does have three quality starts in his last five and allowed just two earned in 7.0 innings to Houston his last time out. Still, I think if the Yankees offense shows up in Bronx-Bomber form here they shouldn’t have any trouble winning this game. Give me New York.
