The San Diego Padres and the Seattle Mariners meet in game one of their mini two game set from Safeco Field in MLB action on Tuesday.

The San Diego Padres will look to find some measure of consistency after splitting their last 10 games, including a 7-6 win in their series finale against Cincinnati last time out. Luis Urias, Austin Hedges and Freddy Galvis each had two RBIs with Urias and Hedges each going yard while Galvis added a double. Eric Hosmer added a solo home to round out San Diego’s scoring in the win, while Franmil Reyes added a pair of base hits and Travis Jankowski added a double. Cory Spangenberg chipped in a base hit to cap off the Padres’ offense in the win. Jacob Nix allowed all six runs on seven hits while striking out five over four innings of work, not factoring in the decision, while Craig Stammen got the win to improve to 7-2 this season and Kirby Yates picked up his 7th save of the year. Bryan Mitchell will start game one and is 1-3 with a 6.58 ERA and 25 strikeouts this season. This will be Mitchell’s first career start against Seattle.

Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Mariners will try to salvage their playoff hopes after splitting their last 10 games with a 3-2 win over the Yankees in their series finale on Sunday. Robinson Cano went 2 for 4 with an RBI while Ryon Healy and Cameron Maybin each had an RBI as well in the win. Nelson Cruz, David Freitas and Guillermo Heredia each added a base hit to cap off Seattle’s offense in the victory. Erasmo Ramirez allowed both runs on six hits while striking out four over five innings of work, not factoring in the decision while Alex Colome got the win to improve to 6-5 this season and Edwin Diaz picked up his 54th save of the year by closing out the 9th. Marco Gonzales will start game one and is 12-9 with a 4.32 ERA and 128 strikeouts this season. This will be Gonzales’ first career start against San Diego.

San Diego is 3-8 in their last 11 road games and 23-50 in their last 73 games overall while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a left-handed starter. Seattle is 0-4 in Gonzales’ last 4 starts and 5-12 in their last 17 games against the NL West while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. The over is 5-1-1 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.

Good luck trying to pick this game as I simply don’t trust either side given their current form. I know it’s shocking to say about Seattle, but the Mariners just look like they’ve run out of gas and are now sending Gonzales to the mound after allowing 24 runs in his last 20 innings spanning four starts, each of which, the Mariners have lost. I’m also not trying to side with Mitchell as even though he proved me wrong before, he’s still not a pitcher I feel comfortable getting behind. Instead, give me the over as I see both starters getting roughed up.
