The Pittsburgh Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals meet in game two of their three game set from Busch Stadium in MLB action on Tuesday.

The Pittsburgh Pirates will look to bounce back after dropping the opener of the set by a final score of 8-7 on Monday. Starling Marte belted a two run home run, while Josh Harrison and Colin Moran each hit a solo homer. Josh Bell went 3 for 5 with a double and an RBI and Adam Frazier and Corey Dickerson each had an RBI to round out the scoring for the Bucs in the losing effort. Jordy Mercer and starting pitcher Trevor Williams each had a base hit as well to round out Pittsburgh’s offense in the loss. Williams allowed four runs on six hits over five innings of work with six strikeouts, not factoring in the decision. Edgar Santana took the loss, falling to 2-3 this season. Joe Musgrove will start game two and is 6-8 with a 3.75 ERA and 88 strikeouts this season. In his career, Musgrove is 1-1 with a 3.46 ERA and 14 strikeouts against St. Louis.

The St. Louis Cardinals will look to push for the sweep on Wednesday if they can make it two in a row here after their series opening win on Tuesday. Matt Adams belted a three run home run while Paul DeJong had a double and two RBIs. Harrison Bader had two RBIs and Marcell Ozuna added an RBI to round out St. Louis’ scoring in the win while Matt Carpenter added a double. Jost Martinez chipped in two hits and Greg Garcia added a base knock to round out the Cardinals offense in the win. Adam Wainwright allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out three over five innings of work, not factoring in the decision. John Brebbia got the win to improve to 2-3 while Carlos Martinez picked up his 3rd save of the season. Miles Mikolas will start game two and is 14-4 with a 3.06 ERA and 119 strikeouts this season. In his career, Mikolas is 1-2 with a 3.04 ERA and 22 strikeouts against Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh is 0-4 in Musgrove’s last 4 road starts and 3-10 in their last 13 road games while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 road games against a team with a winning record. St. Louis is 5-1 in Mikolas’ last 6 home starts and 22-9 in their last 31 games overall while the under is 13-7 in their last 20 games overall. Pittsburgh is 1-5 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams and 15-38 in the last 53 meetings between these two teams in St. Louis.

Mikolas is coming off of a start in which he gave up four earned for the third time in his last five starts. However, you can argue that Mikolas has been St. Louis’ most consistent pitcher this season, and should have a win after allowing just nine earned runs over 24 innings against the Pirates this season. Musgrove gave up five runs in his last start against the Cardinals and the difference for me here is that the Cards have all the momentum right now after rallying for Monday’s win, so I’ll lay the juice with St. Louis in this spot.
