The Houston Astros and the Detroit Tigers meet in the finale of their three game set from Comerica Park in MLB action on Wednesday.

The Houston Astros will look to complete the sweep after taking game two on Tuesday by a final score of 5-4. All of Houston’s damage on the scoreboard was done with the long ball as Tyler White and Tony Kemp each had two run home runs while Jose Altuve belted a solo shot. Yuli Gurriel added a pair of hits as the ‘Stros mustered up seven hits as a team in the win. Will Harris ended up with the win in relief of Framber Valdez who allowed four runs in four innings of work while Roberto Osuna picked up his 17th save. Gerrit Cole will start game three and is 13-5 with a 2.86 ERA and 251 strikeouts this season. In his career, Cole is 3-1 with a 2.51 ERA and 34 strikeouts against Detroit.

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Tigers will look to salvage a win after dropping the first two games of the set, coming up just short in a pair of one run losses. JaCoby Jones led the way with a three run home run while Dawel Lugo added an RBI to round out Detroit’s scoring in the loss. Jeimer Candelario and Niko Goodrum each added a double, with Candelario going 2 for 5 at the dish. Christin Stewart and Victor Martinez each added a base hit as well in the losing effort. Jordan Zimmermann took the loss to fall to 7-7 this season after allowing all five runs, four earned, on six hits over five innings of work. Daniel Norris will start game three and is 0-3 with a 5.47 ERA and 32 strikeouts this season. This will be Norris’ second career start against Houston.

Houston is 21-8 in Cole’s last 29 starts and 16-5 in their last 21 games overall while the over is 4-1 in Cole’s last 5 starts overall. Detroit is 7-3 in Norris’ last 10 starts against a team with a winning record and 2-5 in their last 7 home games while the under is 6-0-1 in Norris’ last 7 starts overall. Houston is 7-15 in the last 22 meetings between these two teams in Detroit.

Cole has been the Cole we’ve been used to seeing as of late, keeping runs to a minimum and striking guys out. Norris hasn’t gotten a win to show for his work, but the fact is Norris has done his best to give the Tigers a chance to win games, and has allowed five runs in his two starts since coming off of the DL. Houston is the better team and should win, but I’m hesitant to back the Astros on the run line after a pair of one run wins. I’m going to side with the under as I think we have a low-key pitchers’ duel on our hands on Wednesday.
