The New York Yankees and the Minnesota Twins meet in the finale of a three game set from Target Field in MLB action on Wednesday.
The New York Yankees will look to win the rubber match of the series after dropping game two on Tuesday by a final score of 10-5. Didi Gregorius led the Yankees by going 2 for 3 with a home run, a triple and four RBIs while Gary Sanchez added the other New York run in the loss. Miguel Andujar went 2 for 4 while Andrew McCutchen added a base hit as well as the Yankees put up just five hits as a team in the losing effort. Sonny Gray took the loss to fall to 10-9 this season after allowing three runs on four hits over three innings of work. Luis Severino will start game three and is 17-7 with a 3.52 ERA and 202 strikeouts this season. This will be Severino’s second career start against Minnesota.

The Minnesota Twins will look to play spoiler and win the series after taking game two in convincing fashion on Tuesday. Joe Mauer led the Twins, going 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs while Jake Cave added two RBIs and Jorge Polanco, Max Kepler and Willians Astudillo each had an RBI with Polanco going 3 for 5 with a double and Kepler adding a two-bagger of his own. Robbie Grossman, Tyler Austin and Ehire Adrianza each added a base hit as well in the winning effort. John Stewart picked up the win in relief to improve to 1-1 this season. Jake Odorizzi will start game three and is 5-10 with a 4.57 ERA and 148 strikeouts this season. In his career, Odorizzi is 5-8 with a 4.61 ERA and 73 strikeouts against the Yankees.
New York is 8-1 in Severino’s last 9 starts against the AL Central and 12-4 in their last 16 road games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record. Minnesota is 5-1 in Odorizzi’s last 6 home starts and 2-7 in their last 9 games overall while the over is 4-0 in Odorizzi’s last 4 starts against the AL East.
Plus money with Minnesota at home is tempting considering Tuesday’s result, but I just can’t bring myself to back Odorizzi as he’s lost his last three starts, including his last start which saw Jake allow five runs in just 4.2 innings of work. On the other hand, the Yankees can mash the ball, but Severino has been giving up runs himself lately, so I’d rather take a shot with the over as I see both teams doing some damage on the board on Wednesday.
