The Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees will kick off their MLB set from Yankee Stadium on Friday.
The Jays are coming off a set against the Red Sox this week. Toronto fell 7-2 and 1-0 in the first two games, then on Thursday the Jays dropped another one 4-3.

For the Friday game, the Jays will be bringing out RHP Marco Estrada. In his 130.1 innings and 7-11 mark this year, Estrada has a 5.32 ERA with 95 Ks.
Justin Smoak leads the Blue Jays’ offense this year, entering Thursday on 116 hits, 64 runs, 24 homers and 74 RBI. In the Sox finale, Smoak had a hit and an RBI.
Over on the Yankees’ side, they played the Twins in their last set. New York won the first game but fell in the other pair 10-5 and 3-1 to lose the series.
New York is going with RHP Masahiro Tanaka on Friday. Across his 142.0 innings and 11-5 mark this year, Tanaka has a 3.61 ERA with 144 Ks and 32 BBs.
The Yankees’ lead hitter this year is Miguel Andujar, who is sitting on 154 hits, 76 runs, 23 homers and 79 RBI. Giancarlo Stanton isn’t far behind with 148 hits, 90 runs, 33 homers and 86 RBI.
The Blue Jays are 9-2 in their last 11 Friday games and 1-4 in their last five in game one of a series. Toronto is 5-12 in their last 17 overall and 3-8 in their last 11 versus a team with a winning record.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 7-0 in their last seven versus the AL East and 4-0 in their last four Friday games. New York is 5-1 in Tanaka’s last six starts in game one of a series and 12-5 in his last 17 Friday starts.
New York really needs to start playing with a sense of urgency, as their lead on home-field advantage in the Wild Card race has nearly melted away. The good news is that Tanaka has four quality starts in his last five outings. The bad news is that the Yankees offense has been flat-out awful lately. I’m begrudgingly going New York here—mostly because of Tanaka—but I’m staying away from anything Yankees right now. Taking the Jays on a value pick due to the line might be a smart move as well.
