The Oakland Athletics and the Tampa Bay Rays will be kicking off their MLB weekend series on Friday from Tropicana Field.
The A’s are coming off a series against the Orioles. Oakland took the first two games 3-2 and 10-0, then on Thursday the A’s lost 5-3.

For the Friday game, the A’s are going with RHP Edwin Jackson. Across 77.1 innings and 5-3 record this year, Jackson has a 3.26 ERA with 56 Ks.
Tops in hitting for the A’s this year is Marcus Semien, who entered the Baltimore finale on 149 hits, 82 runs, 12 homers and 56 RBI. On Thursday, Semien had a hit and a run.
Over on the Rays’ side, they just finished up against the Indians. Tampa split the first two games before winning Wednesday to take the series.
On Friday, the Rays will be sending out Diego Castillo. In his 47.0 innings and 3-2 mark this year, Castillo has a 3.45 ERA with 49 Ks.
Tampa’s top hitter is Matt Duffy, who is sitting on 138 hits, 52 runs and 42 RBI. Joey Wendle isn’t too far back with 127 hits, 52 runs and 51 RBI.
The A’s are 4-0 in their last four Friday games and the under is 6-2-1 in their last nine Friday games. The over is 5-2 in the A’s last seven in game one of a series and 3-1-1 in their last five on turf.
Meanwhile, the Rays are 6-0 in their last six versus the AL West and 20-6 in their last 26 overall. Tampa is 3-7 in their last 10 Friday games and 4-10 in their last 14 following an off-day.
Castillo is coming off of a Monday start where he went two innings and allowed one run. His velocity has been good and overall he’s been a solid pitcher. This is a big series for the A’s, as they continue their quest to steal home-field advantage in the Wild Card race, but Tampa won’t make it easy for them. Oakland is a driven team that’s just playing out of their minds lately though, so I have to stick with the Athletics here.
