The Washington Nationals and the Atlanta Braves meet in game two of their three game set from SunTrust Park in MLB action on Saturday.
The Washington Nationals will look to bounce back after dropping the series opener by a final score of 10-5 on Friday. Juan Soto belted a solo home run, while Wilmer Difo had a double and two RBIs. Matt Wieters and Bryce Harper each had an RBI to round out Washington’s scoring in the loss. Trea Turner and Ryan Zimmerman each had two hits with a double while Mark Reynolds added a two-bagger of his own. Anthony Rendon added a base hit of his own to round out the Nationals’ offense in the defeat. Max Scherzer took the loss, falling to 17-7 this season after allowing six runs on seven hits while striking out six over four innings of work. Jeremy Hellickson will start game two and is 5-3 with a 3.57 ERA and 64 strikeouts this season. In his career, Hellickson is 2-0 with a 3.18 ERA and 20 strikeouts against Atlanta.

The Atlanta Braves will look to keep it rolling after winning six in a row with their victory on Friday. Nick Markakis led the way with three RBIs while Ronald Acuna Jr. and Tyler Flowers each had two RBIs with Acuna Jr. adding a triple and a double in going 4 for 5 at the dish. Freddie Freeman and Charlie Culberson each had an RBI to finish off Atlanta’s scoring while Ender Inciarte went 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles and Ozzie Albies went 2 for 4 with a double of his own to finish Atlanta’s offense in the winning effort. Kevin Gausman gave up four runs, three earned, on seven hits over 5.2 innings of work to improve to 10-10 overall this season. Julio Teheran will start game two and is 9-7 with a 3.95 ERA and 145 strikeouts this season. In his career, Teheran is 6-5 with a 4.12 ERA and 100 strikeouts against Washington.
Washington is 5-2 in their last 7 games overall and 6-2 in their last 8 road games while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 game 2 matchups. Atlanta is 4-0 in Teheran’s last 4 starts and 6-0 in their last 6 games overall while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 division matchups. Atlanta is 4-1 in Teheran’s last 5 starts against Washington.
Hellickson and plus money is tempting, but the fact is that Helly hasn’t pitched since August 15th after suffering a wrist sprain, while Teheran has given up just one earned run in back-to-back outings. The Braves also have one hand on the NL East division crown while the Nationals appear resigned to their fate and are just playing out the string so I’ll lay the juice with the Braves on Saturday.
