The Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Indians meet in the finale of their three game AL Central division set from Progressive Field in MLB action on Sunday.

The Detroit Tigers will look to bounce back after dropping game two on Saturday in disappointing fashion by a final score of 15-0. Christin Stewart and Victor Reyes each had a base knock as the Tigers had just two hits as a team in the loss, with the rest of the squad batting 0 for 22 with 8 strikeouts in the losing effort. Michael Fulmer failed to record an out, giving up two runs on two hits to fall to 3-12 this season. Francisco Liriano will start game three and is 4-10 with a 4.65 ERA and 94 strikeouts this season. In his career, Liriano is 5-8 with a 4.31 ERA and 108 strikeouts against Cleveland.

Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Indians will look to fight for playoff positioning after clinching the AL Central division title with their win on Saturday. Jose Ramirez, Edwin Encarnacion, Yonder Alonso, Jason Kipnis and Roberto Perez each had two RBIs with Alonso hitting a home run while Ramirez and Kipnis each had a double with Ramirez adding a triple as well. Francisco Lindor and Michael Brantley each had a solo home run while Melky Cabrera and Yandy Diaz added an RBI as well in the win. Erik Gonzalez added a double and Greg Allen contributed a base hit of his own to cap off the Tribe’s offense in the winning effort. Mike Clevinger got the win to improve to 11-8 this season after tossing six one hit shutout innings, striking out five. Shane Bieber will start the finale and is 10-3 with a 4.32 ERA and 104 strikeouts this season. This will be Bieber’s second career start against Detroit.

Detroit is 4-11 in Liriano’s last 15 starts and 24-50 in their last 74 games overall while the over is 5-1-2 in their last 8 division matchups. Cleveland is 5-1 in Bieber’s last 6 starts and 64-25 in their last 89 division matchups while the under is 8-3-3 in their last 14 home games. Detroit is 16-43 in the last 59 meetings between these two teams and 6-21 in the last 27 meetings between these two teams in Cleveland.

There’s some concern with a heavy line like this, that Cleveland has clinched so they really have nothing but pride and playoff position to fight for. However, the Tigers appeared to have mailed it in for the last couple of weeks, and sending Liriano to the bump won’t help, considering he is 0-2 with an ERA just under five against the Tribe this season. Bieber threw seven shutout innings in his lone start against Detroit, and if he can replicate that, I like Cleveland to win by a couple of runs on Sunday.
