The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Houston Astros meet in the finale of their three game interleague set from Minute Maid Park on Sunday.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to pick up another much needed win after dropping game two on Saturday by a final score of 10-4. Ketel Marte led the D-Backs with two RBIs coming on a home run and a double while going 2 for 4 at the dish while Eduardo Escobar went 2 for 4 with a solo homer and David Peralta added an RBI of his own to round out Arizona’s scoring in the loss. Daniel Descalso added a double while Paul Goldschmidt added a base knock as well in the defeat. Zack Godley took the loss, falling to 14-10 this season after giving up five runs on seven hits while walking six over just 3.2 innings of work. Zack Greinke will start game three and is 14-9 with a 3.11 ERA and 185 strikeouts this season. In his career, Greinke is 6-2 with a 2.24 ERA and 61 strikeouts against Houston.

The Houston Astros will look to win the set after taking game two in dominant fashion on Saturday. Yuli Gurriel led the ‘Stros with three RBIs, while Marwin Gonzalez and Jose Altuve each had two RBIs with Altuve adding a double in the win. Josh Reddick added a solo home run while George Springer went 4 for 5 at the dish and Alex Bregman and Carlos Correa each had a base hit in the victory to cap off Houston’s offense. Charlie Morton got the win to improve to 15-3 this season after allowing two runs on three hits while striking out seven over six innings of work. Justin Verlander will start game three and is 15-9 with a 2.72 ERA and 258 strikeouts this season. In his career, Verlander is 3-1 with a 2.36 ERA and 34 strikeouts against Arizona.
Arizona is 8-2 in Greinke’s last 10 road starts and 2-6 in their last 8 road games while the under is 11-2 in their last 13 road games. Houston is 4-1 in Verlander’s last 5 starts and 17-5 in their last 22 games overall while the under is 19-5-2 in their last 26 games against the NL West. The under is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
The plus money is tempting with Arizona, as the D-Backs desperately need a win and they have their ace on the mound to get it. However, I’m not betting against Justin Verlander in interleague play, as JV has a career 33-7 record with a 2.76 ERA against the National League. The problem is I can’t really feel comfortable backing Houston on the run line opposite Greinke, so I’ll lay the juice with Houston and try to parlay it with something else on Sunday’s card.
