The Tampa Bay Rays and the Texas Rangers meet up in the finale of their three game set from Globe Life Park in Arlington on Wednesday.
The Tampa Bay Rays will look to complete the sweep after taking the first two games of the set in shutout fashion, including a 4-0 win in game two on Tuesday. Willy Adames led the Rays with a home run and two RBIs while Joey Wendle went 4 for 5 with a pair of doubles and an RBI of his own. Ji-Man Choi added an RBI to round out Tampa’s scoring while Jesus Sucre went 3 for 4 with a double. Matt Duffy and Tommy Pham each had two hits while Brandon Lowe and Kevin Kiermaier each added a base hit to cap off the Rays’ offense in the win. Blake Snell picked up his 20th win after tossing five shutout innings, allowing just one hit while striking out five. The Rays have no announced a starter at the time this article was posted.

The Texas Rangers will look to avoid the sweep after being shutout on Tuesday for the second straight day. Hanser Alberto added a double while Delino DeShields, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Robinson Chirinos each added a base hit as the Rangers logged just four hits as a team in the loss. Yovani Gallardo took the loss to fall to 8-6 this season after giving up three runs on eight hits while walking and whiffing three apiece. Yohander Mendez will start game three and is 2-1 with a 3.86 ERA and 11 strikeouts this season. This will be Mendez’s first career start against Tampa Bay.
Tampa Bay is 22-5 in their last 27 games overall and 15-3 in their last 18 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 Wednesday games. Texas is 1-6 in their last 7 games against the AL East and 3-9 in their last 12 games overall while the under is 9-2-1 in their last 12 Wednesday games. Tampa Bay is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams in Texas.
The Rays are probably going to go with their “opener” tactic here and while Mendez has been good as of late, he still has to get some run support to get the win and the Rangers have been shut out in each of the first two games of the set. The Rays are the hotter and more consistent team here and still have a slim shot at the playoffs so I’ll take Tampa for the sweep on Wednesday.
