The Colorado Rockies and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet in game one of a crucial three game NL West division set from Chase Field in MLB action on Friday.
The Colorado Rockies will look to find a win in the worst way after losing three straight and five of their last six following a 5-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in their last outing. Ian Desmond accounted for both Colorado runs in the loss, while Charlie Blackmon, David Dahl and Nolan Arenado each added a hit as none of Colorado’s four hits went for extra bases in the loss. Tyler Anderson allowed two runs on three hits over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Scott Oberg ended up with the loss to fall to 7-1. German Marquez will start game one and is 12-10 with a 3.96 ERA and 199 strikeouts this season. In his career, Marquez is 2-4 with a 4.33 ERA and 64 strikeouts against Arizona.

The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to keep their playoff hopes alive after snapping a four game losing streak with a 9-0 win over the Cubs in their last outing. Christian Walker and Chris Owings each had a home run and three RBIs, while Jeff Mathis added a home run and two RBIs and Nick Ahmed added an RBI of his own to round out Arizona’s scoring in the win. Patrick Kivlehan added a pair of triples and Jon Jay had two hits as well while Ildemaro Vargas and Ketel Marte each added a base hit to cap off the offense for Arizona. Robbie Ray got the win to improve to 6-2 this season after giving up just one hit and striking out eight across six shutout innings. Zack Godley will start game one and is 14-10 with a 4.79 ERA and 175 strikeouts this season. In his career, Godley is 4-1 with a 3.99 ERA and 41 strikeouts against Colorado.
Colorado is 1-5 in their last 6 games overall and 2-7 in their last 9 series opening matchups while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 road games against a right-handed starter. Arizona is 1-5 in Godley’s last 6 starts and 1-4 in their last 5 games overall while the under is 12-2 in their last 14 division matchups. Colorado is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings between these two teams.
Both of these teams desperately need a win to keep in the playoff race. The problem for Arizona is that the D-Backs appear to have run out of gas at the finish line and Godley hasn’t been good in his last couple of starts, allowing 10 runs, 9 earned over just 7.2 innings of work, including five runs in four innings against the Rockies just two starts ago. Marquez isn’t an ace by any means but Marquez has the more consistent offense behind him and I think Colorado recognizes the severity of the situation, so I’ll take the plus money with Colorado on Friday.
