The Chicago Cubs will visit the Chicago White Sox on the South Side at Guaranteed Rate Field Friday to kick off their crosstown MLB series.

The Cubs are coming off a set against the Diamondbacks. Chicago took the first two games of that set, but fell 9-0 in the finale Wednesday.

David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

On Friday, the Cubs will be sending out LHP Jose Quintana. In his 159.1 innings and 13-10 record this year, Quintana has a 3.95 ERA with 142 Ks and 68 BBs.

Leading the Cubs hitters this year is Javier Baez, who is sitting on 165 hits, 96 runs, 33 homers and 107 RBI. Anthony Rizzo is second with 145 hits, 68 runs, 24 homers and 95 RBI.

Over on the Sox’ side, they played the Indians this week. Chicago lost the first two games of that set, then on Thursday the Sox eked out a 5-4 win in 11 innings.

The White Sox are sending out Reynaldo Lopez on Friday. Across 175.2 innings and a 6-9 mark this year, Lopez has a 4.05 ERA with 138 Ks.

Tops in hitting for the Sox is Yolmer Sanchez, who came into the Indians finale with 137 hits, 56 runs and 52 RBI. On Thursday, Sanchez had two hits and a run.

The Cubs are 5-1 in their last six Friday games and 4-1 in their last five in game one of a series. The Cubs are also 5-2 in their last seven overall and 0-4 in their last four following an off day.

Meanwhile, the Sox are 6-1 in their last seven Friday games and 5-15 in their last 20 versus the NL Central. The Sox are 1-5 in their last six home games following a road trip of a week or more and the over is 17-7-1 in their last 25 Friday games.

Over his last six starts, Quintana has been pretty solid. In that time, he hasn’t allowed more than two earned in an appearance and has three quality starts. As for Lopez, he’s doing very well this month, sitting on a 0.45 ERA. This should be a pretty fun pitching matchup, but I’ll take Quintana here thanks to his familiarity with the surroundings. I’m going Cubs.
