The Philadelphia Phillies and the Atlanta Braves meet in game three of their four game NL East division set from SunTrust Park in MLB action on Saturday.
The Philadelphia Phillies will look to bounce back after dropping the first two games of the series including a 6-5 loss in game two on Friday. Wilson Ramos led the charge with two RBIs, going 1 for 3 with a double while Cesar Hernandez added a solo home run. Maikel Franco and Jose Bautista each added an RBI to round out Philly’s scoring in the loss while JP Crawford and Jorge Alfaro each addd a triple to the cause. Carlos Santana added a base knock to finish off Philadelphia’s offense in the defeat. Nick Pivetta didn’t factor into the decision after allowing just one ru over five innings of work, while Pat Neshek took the loss to fall to 3-2 this season. Jake Arrieta will start game three and is 10-9 with a 3.77 ERA and 133 strikeouts this season. In his career, Arrieta is 4-1 with a 2.29 ERA and 38 strikeouts against Atlanta.

The Atlanta Braves will look for a win here to win the series and lock up the division title and punch their ticket to the postseason. Johan Camargo and Ozzie Albies each had two RBIs with Albies adding a home run, while Ender Inciarte added a double and an RBI and Freddie Freeman added an RBI to cap off Atlanta’s scoring in the win. Lucas Duda, Tyler Flowers, Nick Markakis and Ronald Acuna Jr. each added a base hit to cap off Atlanta’s offense in the win. Julio Teheran didn’t factor into the decision after allowing all four runs on five hits over 6.1 innings of work, while Jonny Venters got the win and Jesse Minter picked up his 15th save of the season. Mike Foltynewicz will start game three and is 11-10 with a 2.90 ERA and 188 strikeouts this season. In his career, Foltynewicz is 4-3 with a 3.51 ERA and 61 strikeouts against Philadelphia.
Philadelphia is 2-6 in Arrieta’s last 8 starts and 1-5 in their last 6 road games while the over is 4-0 in Arrieta’s last 4 division starts. Atlanta is 0-4 in Foltynewicz’s last 4 home starts and 12-2 in their last 14 home games against a team with a losing road record while the over is 6-0 in their last 6 games overall. Philadelphia is 1-5 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams in Atlanta.
Arrieta has strong numbers against the Braves in his career, however Arrieta also has allowed three or more runs in six of his last seven starts and the Phils have lost six of his last eight starts overall. Foltynewicz was roughed up for six runs in his last start and Atlanta has lost five of his last six starts, but Folty also had allowed one run or less in six of his prior seven starts before last start’s blowup. All in all, Foltynewicz has been Atlanta’s most consistent starter the entire season, and I like the Braves to ride his arm to the division crown on Saturday afternoon.
