For Saturday’s game, the Mets will be sending out RHP Corey Oswalt. In his 55.2 innings and 3-2 record this year, Oswalt has a 6.31 ERA with 37 Ks and 15 BBs.
The Mets’ lead hitter this year is Amed Rosario, with 136 hits, 73 runs and 49 RBI heading into game two. On Friday, Rosario had a hit and a run.
Over on the Nats’ side, they’re going with Tanner Roark on Saturday. Across 180.1 innings and a 9-15 record this year, Roark has a 4.34 ERA with 146 Ks and 50 BBs.
Washington’s top bat this season is Trea Turner, who came into Friday on 168 hits, 96 runs, 17 homers and 65 RBI. In game two, Turner had a hit and a run.
The Mets are 4-1 in their last five Saturday games and 5-2 in their last seven in game three of a series. The under is 7-1 in New York’s last eight Saturday games and they’re 2-5 in Oswalt’s last seven starts versus the NL East.
Meanwhile, the Nats are 4-0 in their last four Saturday games and 8-3 in Roark’s last 11 starts. Washington is 8-3 in Roark’s last 11 starts on grass and 4-1 in his last five starts versus the NL East.
After a couple of bad relief appearances, Oswalt has done better over his last two starts with two earned on eight hits in 5.2 innings. Roark is in a similar boat; he coughed up 11 earned across 9.2 innings before bouncing back in Atlanta with two earned over 5.1 his last time out. I’m not thrilled about either pitcher (or team, for that matter) here, but I’m going with the home-town Nats based on potential.
