The Miami Marlins and the Washington Nationals meet in game two of their three game set from Nationals Park in MLB action on Tuesday.
The Miami Marlins will look to bounce back after being dropped by a final score of 7-3 in game one on Monday. Miguel Rojas, Brian Anderson and Lewis Brandon each had an RBI, with Rojas adding a double to round out Miami’s scoring in the loss. Peter O’Brien went 2 for 4 with a double of his own and Austin Dean added a base hit as the Fish just had six hits in the losing effort. Sandy Alcantara took the loss to fall to 2-2 after allowing six runs on seven hits over four innings of work. Jeff Brigham will start game two and is 0-3 with a 5.84 ERA and 10 strikeouts this season. This will be Brigham’s first career start against Washington.

The Washington Nationals will look to win the series and push for the sweep on Wednesday after taking game one on Monday. Anthony Rendon went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double and four RBIs while Matt Wieters and Juan Soto each added a solo home run. Bryce Harper added a double and an RBI of his own to round out Washington’s scoring in the win. Trea Turner went 2 for 5 with a double and Adam Eaton added a base knock of his own to round out Washington’s scoring in the victory. Stephen Strasburg gave up just one run over four innings of work, not factoring in the decision while Justin Miller picked up the win to improve to 7-1 this season. Max Scherzer will start game two and is 17-7 with a 2.57 ERA and 290 strikeouts this season. In his career, Scherzer is 11-3 with a 3.09 ERA and 127 strikeouts against Miami.
Miami is 2-7 in their last 9 division matchups and 1-7 in their last 8 Tuesday games while the over is 11-3-1 in their last 15 road games. Washington is 22-9 in Scherzer’s last 31 home starts and 35-17 in their last 52 Tuesday games while the over is 6-0 in Scherzer’s last 6 starts against a team with a losing record. Washington is 6-0 in Scherzer’s last 6 starts against Miami and 6-0 in his last 6 home starts against Miami.
The plus money is tempting considering it only takes one bounce to go Miami’s way and for the Fish to steal a game that pretty much means nothing. However, Scherzer has owned the Fish in his career, is 10 strikeouts away from being just the 17th pitcher since 1900 with 300 strikeouts in a season and is gunning for another Cy Young. Sometimes you just have to take the better team in a situation like this so I’ll back the Nationals with their ace on the run line.
